Dataroam in Europe for a family?

Any advice how to manage the dataroaming costs for the following scenario?

12 day Europe escorted tour involving Holland, Belgium, Paris.

Family of 3 Iphones,

Was thinking of using 1 Singtel card with Dataroam activated inside 1 mobile wifi router.

3 Iphones will connect to the mobile wifi.

Therefore cost limited to $15 a day, but if morning in 1 country, and afternoon in another, then doubled.

However, I have to make sure the SINGTEL NETWORK LOCK is activated at all times?

Any cheaper or more efficient option?

$15 a day shared by 3 is very cheap alr..if stil wan to save, jus log in free wifi when back at hotel or buy a coffee at starbucks. pw usu at the bottom of the receipt.

additional tip: same pw for all the outlets in the same city hehehe

bro, I went for this kind of tour before.

For me, I just use the hotel wifi. And sometimes during lunch, there will be restaurant, cafe, that has free wifi. I survived 15 days Europe tour just using free WiFi.

Like what other say, just enjoy the sightseeing.

Furthermore, you will be in the bus moving from place to place. No guarantee you will get signal during that bus travel.

BTW, Holland, Belgium and Paris are nice especially near summer time. How come never add Swiss into the trip?

Escorted tour, so can't change itinerary.

Would like to have access so can FB check-in at each stop, as well as Whatsapp for work purposes.

I did use Iphone personal hotspot to link up other phones before, but the batt drains fast, and phone gets hot too. But this is the first time I encountering multiple countries,

SingTel network lock can avoid wrong Telco, but was wondering is there a local SIM that can work for 3 countries over there, to manage the overall cost?

Maybe for work purposes understandable, but whole family need for work?

Put the devices away and enjoy the experience.

Buy the pre-paid SIM card from this "telco" called Lebara. They latch onto other telcos in each country, and their local data costs as low as 5 Euros for 250MB, 10 Euros for 500MB, valid for one month.

Best of all, in many places, the SIM card itself is free. And the international calls can be as low as 19 cents per minute, applicable for calling back to Singapore.

Search for "Lebara" with the country name, and you can get to the website of this operator in each country, and all rates are published there.

I bought my Lebara card in Switzerland. End up go Paris, it latched to various networks so in the end never use.

Wasted CHF 20, cos didn't use up the 1GB provided. For me, it was work, because of 6 hour time difference, I usually only get 3-4 hours of sleep a day (by the time it's 5.30am, my phone start ringing liao), when I awake, usually travelling around, look look see see, being alert to pickpockets (a LOT), at night see Whatsapp, reply, nobody answer me cos Singapore all sleeping liao.

If die die want to get, look for Lebara, another popular alternative is Orange. My suggestion: Use free Wifi, save money buy stuff.

TS better check. $15/day does not apply to all countries.

Some are $20/day and some are $30/day.

IIRC, Europe is mostly $30/day.

lebara is easy to get n top up... sim card shld be euro15 to 20 plus some talk times, as for data plans they do have plans for up to 2 weeks, if I rem correctly, shld be ard euro30... n pls do check wif their staffs on usage in other countries.. charges r pretty reasonable...

think u will need a few extra batteries, u will be out of hotel most of e time, if not maybe a powerbank...

I suggest you get a local sim card with unlimited data.

should be about 20 euro for 2 weeks.

then on wireless hot spot to share the data with all your phones.

addition advantage is that you have a spare number to contact each other by in case get lose somewhere and no roaming.

that's usually what I do when I go overseas.

I got the free SIM in France, and topped up 10 Euros, of which 4.99 Euros went to the 250MB data. Ended up when I was leaving Paris on the train, I still had credit in the talk time, and I called home to chat for 20 minutes with my family. Still couldn't use up the 2+ Euros. [:p]

Edit: I spent a week in various parts of France. 10 Euros for a week is cheap.

Don't roam.

Let your family tether to yours if they need data.
