Shinjuku self-immolation act protests Abe’s democracy hijack

Abe is like a thief in the night sneaking in the back door to steal the heart and soul of Japan’s pacifist Constitution, and this is what angers people. The absence of any substantive public consultation and the failure to pursue revision through the front door by securing Diet approval and holding a public referendum — procedures laid out in the Constitution — raises serious questions about Abe’s commitment to democratic principles and the sugarcoated militarism he touts as “proactive pacifism.”

LKY once said that "The Japanese are also peerless in the way they strive for perfection in everything they do." and that rearming Japan "is like giving chocolate liqueur to an alcoholic", as in it will want more and more arms.

This is one of those things that set LKY apart from the rest; in that he actually went through the whole world war 2 thing, and holds no illusions that the japs have changed their mindset...

Perhaps some japs are ardently pacifist, but among the vast silent majority, as happened in WW2, there are many "followers" who will just get swept up with the mood of the times and obey orders unquestioningly.

Obeying orders without question is also sadly a jap characteristic that is still prevalent up till today. And therein lies the danger.

A lot of people especially younger generation may get lulled by the fact the japs appear to be very modern nowadays, with the latest high-tech gadgets, pop culture, manga, etc. - so how can they revert to the barbarism they displayed in WW2??

But do not forget that countries like yugoslavia, syria, etc. were all very modern also - people went to work in offices, led middle class lifestyles, went for holidays abroad just like everyone else in any modern country - but the moment conflict started along sectarian lines, no mercy was shown and the kind of atrocities that were committed are more like in the middle ages or medieval times, not 21st century.
