Civictyper2014 July 11, 2014 Share July 11, 2014 Today i notice only one of the fans are working when down to the workshop to check. mechanic say one of the fan motor spoiled and ask me to change 2 motors as the other one will spoiled soon.i told him to just changed the one that is spoiled . was quoted 180 for a aftermarket motor. strange the other one not spoil ask me change also. while changing it they also removed the radiator pipe connect to the engine. after changing, they top up abit of toyota premixed coolant into the radiator and reserve tank . i saw the radiator and tank was filled to the brim. after 1 hrs drive back home due to traffic jam. i pop the bonnet to check on the fans if they are working. I noticed the radiator reserve tank was empty!!! i wanted to check my radiator but the engine was still hot and dangerous to open . so i decided tomorrow morning when it is cold i will check my radiator. 1st question : can i top up my reserve tank with tap water? 2nd question: i wonder how come the radiator was full and the mechanic top up abit of premised coolant but when i reached home the reserve tank empty. any advice bros ↡ Advertisement
Vhtfhwlego Supercharged July 12, 2014 Share July 12, 2014 1) tap water ok. 2) maybe got leak? Maybe got air bubble trapped somewhere?
Watwheels Supersonic July 12, 2014 Share July 12, 2014 (edited) Any electric motor has a pair of carbon bush. Once they wear out the motor will stop working. But most ppl couldn't be bothered to replace the bushes. It's easier and profitable to replace the motor. Coolant is non other dan water. The coloring that we see are anti-freeze that prevent the coolant from turning into ice in cold countries. I recommend using Japanese brand of long life coolants. There could be leaks in the hoses or mechanic forgot to put back the hose clips. Top up the coolant with tap water and go back to the workshop. TL173 1st Gear July 12, 2014 Share July 12, 2014 Strongly suggest to top up Toyota Pre-mix coolant instead of Tap Water, for reason of wrong or lost of coolant properties. Why the reserve tank go empty, is because the coolant was being drawn into the radiator tank & hoses that probably empty or buddle trapped in it. Look into engine bay & floor for any possible leak. Civictyper2014 July 12, 2014 Author Share July 12, 2014 i have went back and ask them to drain all the exiting coolant and replace with new coolant which i bought myself from JAE auto. 20 bucks. will monitor the level of coolant. damn pissed off. mechanic can tell me somemore can mixed with tap water even though the premixed coolant stated no need and already premixed. the motor fan is aftermarket somemore charge me $180. plus 20 coolant. total damage 200. last week just change one recon starter 230. looks like repairs up for this month.
