Duckduck Turbocharged July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 7K RPM redline from a TYPE R??? seriously??? I expected nothing less than 8.5K RPM redline from a TYPE R engine. The Type R heritage is all about high-revving NA engines, that's what true Honda fans love, the screaming NA VTEC sound above 8K RPM... What a disappointment. my previous civic type r was great for highways n track, but daily drive becomes a chore due to having to rev so much just to move. high rev fans are a small market so understandable honda cant make as many type R variants compared to last time. normal cars sell volume, specialist cars unless theres a seperate strong brand like porsche, v hard to survive. ↡ Advertisement
SGCMWhiteKnight 2nd Gear July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 I only found it a chore at traffic jams, loved my FD2R previously, one of the best handling cars around. Here's a utube of Honda's F1 turbo engine, sounds a whole lot better than the current F1 engines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wGZI2mryqY

SGCMWhiteKnight 2nd Gear July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 did you encount any understeer issue on FD2R? tot Civic Type R only FWD Not much. Its a car in the true Type R tradition: lightweight, powerful and handles like a dream. Of course it was fun driving in the 5-8k rpm range...the joke was "life begins at 5k rpm"...lol The stock setup came with the Bridgestones RE070 which really is a track tire with super hard sidewalls. The ride is hard, but the steering feedback and handling is very precise.
Quantum 5th Gear July 31, 2014 Author Share July 31, 2014 wonder will there be a JDM version? something like FD vs FN. Yes, missing JDM version, but only popular in east asia, normally eastern ppl thinking is different from western, eastern ppl expect their car c/w muti-function, in term of sprot, daily driving, family gathering all in one, western ppl want dedicated sport car instead of muti-function car
Holdenutessv Turbocharged July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 (edited) wonder will there be a JDM version? something like FD vs FN. Doubt so. Since they said the FD is going to be the last JDM Type R, the newer ones are going to be Euro spec. They are going TC because of the strict emission standards in Europe. Stratovarius Turbocharged July 31, 2014 Share July 31, 2014 True Honda fans hate that. The reason Honda has such a huge fan base is precisely because they'd refused to TC their cars through the years. They eventually succumbed, Remember watching an episode in best motoring featuring the FD2R. One of the honda guys they interviewed said that Honda's true spirit is to perfect NA engines running on FF layout. It's weird that they went on a FI path for their iconic model. Quantum 5th Gear July 31, 2014 Author Share July 31, 2014 (edited) Most likely it's a UK spec Type R. To compete in the Europe car market where most cars are turbo petrol & turbo diesel. If you look at Japan there's no TC cars except Subaru. Most of the Japanese are into hybrid cars. actually U.S automaker main stream production also is NA engine, they normally big NA capacity engine (normal 4.0L above), there are still big market in those fuel consumption is not issue countries like mid-east and U.S, to entertain asia fuel constrained contries consumers, adopt TC in some small cc engine Edited July 31, 2014 by Quantum

Quantum 5th Gear August 2, 2014 Author Share August 2, 2014 sushi turbo lai liao this one caught my eyes in ST LIFE (today) not too impressive, 2.0T 205bhp/350Nm so so, still has long way to go compared with sushi turbo ancestor Subaru, 2.0T 280bhp/400Nm (JDM 2014 forester), even GT86 NA also 200bhp/, anyway it's good sign, expect Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mazda launch similar vehicles asap, then consumers don't need to spend high cost on Conti Turbo family cars

Kiadaw 6th Gear August 2, 2014 Share August 2, 2014 sushi turbo lai liao this one caught my eyes in ST LIFE (today) Is this a good price by current standard. Sound pretty good. How much power/Torque? turbo is teh way to go! A small fast spooling turbo is more effortless, fuel efficient in daily driving. Power comes more instantly at lower revs. You have to work harder (if that's your kind of things), to produce power/torque for high rev NA car. SGCMWhiteKnight 2nd Gear August 2, 2014 Share August 2, 2014 quote name="Kiadaw" post="5237946" timestamp="1406974430"] A small fast spooling turbo is more effortless, fuel efficient in daily driving. Power comes more instantly at lower revs. You have to work harder (if that's your kind of things), to produce power/torque for high rev NA car. You are generalizing too much and making some very contradictory statements. A car with a small turbo if you drive on boost all the time will never be fuel efficient despite all the manufacturer's claims, most of the time those FC figures are never achieved. A high revving CTR will have instant power on tap even at lower rpms because it already has high compression which produces more power at lower rpms. Cars with tiny turbos will run out of steam at high boost so their upper end power limited.
