I normally do not think too much of articles posted on yahoo sg, but this one is exceptional.

We could definitely learn something from the taxi driver. Enjoy the lengthy article.

if every taxi driver is so clever, the taxi company is going to get a lot of complaint [laugh][laugh]

But seriously why isn't the taxi driver not a CEO if he has such a good brain for business? Is there something wrong with this story?

timely reminder...

Many drivers complain that business is tough and the price of gas has gone up. They are trying to pin the cause down on other people. If you keep pinning the cause on other people, you will never get any better. You must look at yourself to see where the problem is. This sounds very familiar. It seems like “If you cannot change the world, then you should change yourself” or perhaps a pirated copy of Steven Corey’s “Circles of Influence and Concern.”

Not necessarily so. Some smart people love the flexibility of this kind of job. Or they're simply not keen on joining the rat race.

Look at Good Will Hunting. Ability was hardly a problem for him, he was just content to remain a janitor (initially).

Interesting article and clever driver. Only issue is that his behaviour is exactly the sort of thing that's led to complaints against Sg taxi drivers. If more people acted the same way, the cab company would probably have to clamp down, just like here. The only reason he can afford to be "clever" is because so many remain "dumb". [laugh]

In any case, some situations not applicable to Sg - e.g. very strict taxi Qs at hospitals. Our daily life is quite regimented compared to China.

but to some extend, it can still be applicable to the local scene.

rather than pick and choose your fare, you pick and choose your locations where you want to take your fare.

more often than not, you will hit a higher earning rate.

much better odds than spend hours queuing at the airport then cuss and swear when the fare goes to tampines

OR queuing at the different casino only to pick a fare going to tiong bahru

smarter way and better way to earn, IMO.

If you are the taxi driver and drive along tampines, you saw an old couple with luggages a sweet young girl in pajamas, which one would you stop to fetch?
