Need opinion on changing to mark x

Do u guys think its a good idea to buy a 06-08 mark X? After hearing my fren bad experience with his 2nd hand 5 series, im kinda afraid of buying cars tats older than 6 years old. But i heard mark x dun have much issues, maybe standard wear and tear items. Is servicing and replacement of wear and tear higher than normal cars? Im driving a SSS at the moment and everything is pretty cheap.

I also heard that mark x is very accident prone, as the car tend to fishtail due to rwd. I always drive my dad's merc around ( also rwd ) and i think the car is still pretty safe to corner etc, however i read around the forums and people are saying that mark x handling is very bad. anyone with experience driving 1 can enlighten me?

What is fc like? im guessing 10-11km/hr? I does about 80% highway every day.

Last questions, just asking purely for fun, how come never heard of people lup a bolt on turbo onto a mark X? i can imagine the power it could generate...

Fuel consumption 50/50 city/highway is like 9km/L (relatively heavy foot) but once u hit the highway, like NSHW, 15km/L is normal. I drive 140km/180km per hour And have lots of 50 ringgit to give away to our a bang MY police on the way upto Penang!

Fish tail? Tyre presure make sure 230 front and 220 rear, unless u have passenger. Else you as good a driver as me? Just a joke....I like fish tail= a control fish tail is a drift

Get a good set of tyres like ps2 and rotate tyres every 10k

Fish tail and handling issue? No offence, but by enlarge most of these are bad driving skills.

Reliability and cost of maintenance? Way way...way....way..lower than "BUY MORE WORRIES" = BMW.

bolt on Turbo>? the original set from Japan is a Super charger set - it's about $15K

FUN = less reliability

I've a brother with a 3L Mark X with the original SC kit.

The Kit Kapo on year 3 just before inspection! lucky him, took out the kit for inspection anyway

Else the car (Mark X) is a very reliable car.

Spend some money, go Toyota Stockist to buy the Lexus GS brake kit and change out the original brake kit.

Use Engine Oil of 5-20W or 5-30W. I prefer 5-20W x 4quarts + 5-30W x3quarts. I floor my accelerator nearby daily -> 9km/L

my wife drives - ~11KM/L

Better than my bulls**t Audi - stating very low fuel consumption on paper. like 13km/L, I never ever hit 8km/L. some more need to top up 1 quart of engine oil every 3000KM or so......KNLBCCB

Dun care what make or model. When the car ages you must be prepared coz nothing is for sure. Old car symptoms are usually the same.

Suspension - gone. Under arms and dampers requires replacement.

Engine - leaking engine oil. Requires head gasket and seal kit replacement.

Aircon - not cold.

Radiator - leaking.

You must be prepared for all these crap. But when you look at it's going for scrap in 2 years or more time. You won't bother to waste time waste money on it.

Handling wise it's a combinations of a few items namely, suspension, tires and driver. I dunno what is fishtail but I do know what is oversteer. I do not think it has that much power to oversteer. I think ppl uses lousy tires.

I LoL at your idea of installing a TC kit. Yes, I think there's a Tom's supercharger kit but all these will put wear & tears parts into faster deterioration. So why bother? You might as well get a used WRX if you are into TC. It's legal at least.

You want to TC it and you care about FC? I think you ask very cute questions. You are buying used so be prepared for lousy FC.

It's all about managing expectations. It doesn't mean that if the car has a Toyota badge it's indestructable. It isn't.

Seems like mark X is a good car. feeling better now after reading the comments since I came across so many post saying that the car will buang etc etc. I guess its all individual skills.

fc also surprisingly decent for such a big cc car, compare to my dad's merc tat only manage 9 or less km/l

I think the supercharger dun play play, will kana compound. im jus curious why ppl never tc it, prolly cause mostly uncle driving or no place to fit? lol

Mark X fc so good to be true

If a camry 2.0L about 9-10km//l

What about a mark X 2.5L FC?

Figure it yourself

You dun seems to knows the factor the Mark X FC is as good as Camry 2.5L.? Yet jump into conclusion! The worst of the lot is Camry 2L with 4 speed gear box and under power.

When a car is under power, you step on more and with less gear, you not going to have saving....unless u drive a snail speed....

Conti cars have better fuel saving with 7 speed, 8 speed gear box, although with TC engines.

In the past, most TC engine with lesser gear have very bad fuel consumption.

In any case, still think Japanese makers should have move on to 7 speed to 8 speed by now.....I knows CVT is 7 speed with most Japan mix, but how about std or dual clutch gear box? There isn't any in Japanese line up except for ISF, IS250 F-sports model only available in US.

Hi TS,

If FC is your concern. Pls stay below 1.6 L. Road tax for 2.5L already kill u off. As I always say, want to upgrade FC should not be a concern. Bcos will not much different with extra 100 to 150 more. Want to enjoy than got to accept.

thanks guy for feedback. road tax insurance all that is nt an issue cause already calculated within budget. FC is good for me to ask upfront, since i heard people claiming 17km/l on mark x forum, come here and ask for more opinions. If its 9-11km/l imho is good enough for a powerful car. If its like 6-7km/l i think ill drop the idea since I travel average 100km/day and i dont want to be topping petrol every 3 days.

TC and SC ask for fun only, jus curious since i encounter so many TC'ed family car like camry and lancer, i wonder if people are crazy enough to FI a mark X. sounds fun frm the idea.

Owned a Mark X in 2006,lovely car to cruise, fun to drive and play golf with, not much to shout about, tame look and tad robust unless you ' zheng ' up to look fierce.

fuel consumption wld be dependant on heavy footed or light, i got average of 8.5-9K/100 it s another higher end Toyota car, there is a forum for MarkX owner, and lastly I would not say leg room is cramp at the back, it can accommodate 3 adults on city or highway.

Nice car and awesome to cruise around
