This model will disappear soon. Has anyone driven one other than sitting in one as a passenger?

Or, encounters with them on the roads??

Still see them in HK, Japan.

The most spacious sedan taxi. Lots of leg room, head room. It's manual transmission. Was very comfortable when they first came on the road. As time goes by, the engine very harsh, suspension like boat.

Turbocharged

Read from today's papers that they clock 1.5 MILLION to 2 MILLION km during their 8 yrs service , with almost zero breakdown . Equivalent to travelling round the earth 50 times of going to moon and back TWICE .

Thats 250,000 km per year ; more than what we clock in 10 years.

A great testament to the durability of diesel engines and smack in the face to LTA's policy of scrapping cars after 10 yrs. And to those with mentality of changing cars after 5yrs due to wear and tear , this is a good example of how much mileage a properly cared for car can clock . ( VW not included ) .

To me this Crown is more than a jewel ; its an icon and I will definately miss it .

Turbocharged

When I came to Singapore in 1984 , this Crown taxi was the first to greet me. They were everywhere . I was like telling myself , " WOW , Singapore very rich , Toyota Crown is luxury car in my hometown KL , not many can afford one ; but here they use it as taxis !! " :o

And I actually bragged to my friends back in my hometown about this. [:p]
