A woman driver who ruined her brand new Porsche and four other vehicles just seconds after leaving the car showroom is facing a 150,000 GBP bill, say police in northern China

Horrified Ping Ch'ang caused £150k worth of damage when totalled the Boxster after mixing up the throttle and the brake as she approached a set of traffic lights in Shenyang, China.

The 27-year-old driver had just turned out of the Porsche garage and was on her way home when she suddenly accelerated into a queue of cars waiting at a red light.

Witness Zhang Ko said: "She seemed to be trying to change lanes when without warning she shot forwards.

He added: "We all ran over and she wasn't hurt but the car was a real mess. We pushed it back to the showroom where it is with the mechanics.

"We'd warned her that it was a very powerful car."

The white Boxster - capable of 0-62mph in just 5.7 seconds and with a top speed of 162mph - is expected to need extensive repairs, as are the four vehicles she hit.

Police spokesman Ho Hsia said: "All the other cars were stationary so she bears the responsibility for the accident and is liable for compensation."

most people always want to try their luck ma.

when i first got my car, i drove it for 2 mths on comfort/soft mode so the acceleration not so hard (it assumes the ground is covered in snow). finally tried race mode a full 4 or 5 months after getting the car.

It should be made a law that all powerful cars be in manual transmission only.

Who makes a full manual anymore?

Do you have any idea how many Lamborghini Gallardo were manual? - It was 300, do you know how many were sold? (actually I would have to look it up, I think somewhere around 10,000 +). You can't get the Huracan as a manual - even as an option.

Which cars really offer a manual?

One thing I do know - the M235i is available as a manual for less than $200k (without COE) - but I would expect that most sold will be the dual clutch.

People like this lady - more dollars than cents. How did she get on in the test drive?

Have you ever seen how they drive in those UAE countries? Just go to youtube and have a look at Saudi drifting

They are all freaking rushing to their 72 virgins...

That's the real problem - too many crashes in relative terms by these sorts of cars. Think the Mah Chi case, the Ferrari case at Nicole Highway....... All senseless gunning of throttle and brakes, without knowing how to control a speeding beast.

The ability to use clutch control, half clutch is already a battle won over all the e-gimickies like ESP, ASR..............anytime.

Seriously though -

the mechanised manual (whatever system they use) are now so good that no driver can come even close.

When it can shift in 100ths of a second - how can a "traditional clutch" compete? And why would you really want to? With the paddle shifter you don't need to take hands from wheel, is faster, more accurate, less wear. Objectively it is better.

The only place a mechanised manual loses out is in "feel" - and how do you quantify and justify that when it is also slower?

FWIW - I sometimes think cars are getting TOO GOOD.

It's such now that "have fun" you have to be going so fast that if anything goes wrong it's catastrophic.

Which is one thing I love about cars like exige, caterham - at least you get that sensation of fun at lower speeds.
