Is it still considered ok and safe for 2012? Not too old?

The tyres is more than 2 years old. Unless you're changing your tyres every year, its not advisable. For me, any tyres older than 6 months are out of consideration because I change tyres every 4 years since my mileage is not high enough to wear out the tyres within 2 years.

depends on the load of your car, if it's MPV and often carry family travel around, don't take it,

if it's daily sedan and most time driving by you alone to work, go ahead, use 2 more years no problem.

Yea this is for sedan which i will use mostly for going back and forth to work, only weekends are for family.

 

With the mile usage i am going for, probably i need to change every 2-3 years, so i guess 2 years old tyres are still ok, total still below 6 years after use.

for premium brands I 100% can for next 2-3 years

others I am not sure.

Premium brand tyre Quality is good till the whole 5 years life for date produced with proper storage history

except Michelin got 6 years from my source

if you think you just for daily drive to work and some express way here I will say is OK

How much savings? If not much look for fresher tires but 2012 not too old but also consider how it was stored in the workshop.
