Professional begger :(

They are out to exploit man's kindness :(

Its always better to give physical items and render physical help than giving money directly, afterall, its best to teach them how to fish than giving them fish

I will prefer to buy them meals outright instead of giving money.

If they need to go home. I will guide them how to walk home.....lol.

If he/she got the strength to walk around begging. Might as well use the strength to start walking home.

Giving physical items also got its own problem.

I ever participated in this charity event.

Each of us are told to donate items in the form of package for each house hold.(each package consist about 25 house hold items like rice, milk, sugar, etc...the cost and brand doesn't matter).

So our group when to Giant to get a total of 20 packages. due to many items in each package, we decided to pop over to ikea to get those blue color bags ($1.20 each if I am not wrong) so that we put all items into 1 bag and at the same time, whoever get it can use it a shopping bag.

Come distribution day, only our 20 packages, out of many others who donated, come with the ikea blue bags.

We can see some of the needy families fighting over those with the ikea bag............. and make us feel really bad....... [:(]

yikes. not a position i envy bro. but whatever the case, karma is always there. just keep doing good, you cannot help it if they fight over the items.

This morning I am at tampines for meeting and saw an elderly couple selling tissues. Took out $2 and pass it to the old granny on the wheelchair and went off. After breakfast at mall, I felt bad, walked back to MRT station and passed her $10. Haiz!

agree. that blue bag may not mean a lot to us in general but for the needy families, I think it means a lot to them.

anyway, we already done our part to help. how they react is out of our control.........

This type of beggars burn in hell.

Yeah . . . preying on people's kind heartedness. There was this well dressed lady a few years back who conned passerbys by claiming she lost her purse and needed money to take bus home. Wife passed her coins amounting to $3+ and learnt from her colleagues their encounters with the same con-woman.

It is this kind of jokers who give / make .....

genuine people in need a bad name

people who donate less willing to donate

in the end, genuine people who really need citizens help are punished / deprived of the help

instead of money, I prefer to give them physical items.

yes, I'm always worried if the money I give is being to fund a bad habit.

Sometime last month, late at night near Market St, a homeless man wanted money cos he was hungry. Told him I will buy him food but not give him money. Bought him dinner from McD behind UOB.

But as it was late for prayers, rushed away. Came back after prayers while he was finishing his food and had a chat with him. He told me he was fighting with his brother so no home. I said you have to have pride that you are a citizen and not beg for food outside. Gave him 5 bucks and told him there is a social office in Kreta Ayer and New Hope is near Chinatown.

Two weeks later, I see the same man standing outside KFC at Funan... same MO. I don't know if the system is failing him or he just doesn't care to do anything about it.

Kudos to the guy who was ranting. Totally understand his feelings. He skips meal to give charity and he see's stuff like this.

But sad that this makes him cynical about giving to others as well.

Back when I was working in Dubai, UAE... I came across an MO which I fell for the 1st time, but quickly learnt my lesson.

Always happens around raya days as people are more generous at that time.

This fellow driving a beat up old car with an Oman plate (another country), has his mum, his wife and kids packed behind. Pulled over next to me and said, "boss, I'm from Oman but I lost my wallet. Can you please give me 100 dirhams for fuel so I can go home at least"

A few days later, I see another Oman plate outside a mosque and this guy gives the same story... wtf :D
