Same as you, I'vs been buying 9+ years car. Last year when I am jobless, I wanted to sell off my Swift sport. Around $500 per month which left 3 months. No one takes the bait. Some even ask for COI....Are you kidding me....

Anyway not many have cold hard cash to throw on uncertainty, especially those near to scrap.

Sellers, please manage your expectations. Sellers, can do a reality check with some of the dealers...

Now I am thinking should I get those near scrap OPC...And renew. Coz I find it a chore to keep changing cars...

You know what, OPC is also asking for crazy monthly depre...

Just wondering ... can you buy a near-scrap OPC (say 3 months left), and pay the residual OPC rebate to convert it to normal plate, just before you renew its COE for another 10 years, as a black plate?

I presume that the rebate to convert the OPC to normal plate in its last 3 months = 17,000/10/12x3 = $425 (nia)?

That's why i mentioned before, it is how you see the depreciation - 1 is depreciation calculated based on intent to scrap and the other 1 is caculated based on renewing coe.

Very funny i supposed but it's happening now...10yrs old car with dep almost like new car as opposed to dep based on coe cost only for the old car which many r hoping to find the rare gem in here.

Yup, totally agree.

Used car depre is even higher than new car but i hope those seller manage to find buyer

$300 very low. My Verna managed to get 600+ and that is after I took off all the stuff like ICE and rims.

Hi,

mind to share with me who or where's the place as im going scrap my coming april.

Quoting Thread Starter's question "I'm looking for ppl selling their 9 year old ride...pls pm me :) you guys think its worth it to buy over a 9 year old car at close to scrap value?"

I think depreciation can be calculated 2 ways....with intention to scrap at end of COE and not to scrap and renew COE

My car, Honda Fit (GE6)'s depreciation explained as follow...brand new parts changed less than 6 months ago - RE003 tyres / Original stock suspension (shocks and absorbers) / OEM idle pulley bearing and belt / Bosch battery / MPM 5w30 engine oil / front slotted disc brake rotors and pads.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At end of COE

COE expiring date: 31 Jan 2018 (Original registration date: 31 Jan 2008)

PARF rebate on 30 Jan 2018: $7,091

COE rebate on 28 Feb 2017: $1,284 ($0 on 30 Jan 2018) (COE paid: $15,601)

Open market value: $12,893

Balance months left: 11 months

Selling aka Asking price is $8,000 above PARF: $15,000

"Intend to Scrap" Depreciation: ($8,000 - $1,284) / 11 = $610 per month (If transfer done on 28 Feb 2017)

Renew COE

"Intend to Renew COE" Depreciation: ($15,000 - $1,284) / 11 = $1,246 per month (If transfer done on 28 Feb 2017)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I am seeing in sgcarmart, those renew COE cars (5yrs for example), their selling price is with the following costs' components...

Renewed 5yrs COE: for example $25,000

ex-PARF value: for example $8,000

Profit: for example $5,000

Selling price = $25k + $8k + $5k = $38,000

As of 30 Mar 2017 as follows...

Balance months left: 10 months

Selling aka Asking price is $7,390 above PARF: $14,390

COE rebate on 30 Mar 2017: $1,167 ($0 on 30 Jan 2018) (COE paid: $15,601)

"Intend to Scrap" Depreciation: ($7,390 - $1,167) / 10 = $622 per month
