to me. very simple.

bonus as the name implies is a bonus. something extra to put in the piggy bank.

don't count on bonus for your lifestyle needs and live within your means.

i've seen alot of ppl waiting for bonus to pay off this and that.

i find that very scary

read something interesting

Jan there is 31 days. Feb there are 28 days. and so on.

February is the only month you get paid correctly in the whole year in Singapore. Employers in Singapore will never overpay you in February. Fat hope and you know it. There are four weeks in a month and we get paid for 28 days in a month. that's it. Straightforward.
In short we are underpaid in every other month other than February.
January - 3 days
March - 3 days
April - 2 days
May - 3 days
June - 2 days
July - 3 days
August - 3 days
September - 2 days
October - 3 days
November - 2 days
December - 3 days
3 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 3 = 29 days.
The shorter way to calculate this would be:
1 month 4 weeks.
You get paid 12 times a year = 12 x 4 = 48 weeks.
There are 52 weeks in a year. 52 - 48 = 4 weeks unpaid
The fact is that Singapore employers hold 29 days of your pay over the year and could refuse to pay you your rightful money if you did not 'perform'. Even if they do it, that meant many employees in Singapore did not get any bonuses from their companies at all. The 13th month is your pay. It is Not a bonus!

For me different ....

See how much bonus I have and thats will be 1% of how much from bonus I will spend on SG50.....

so, I will spent only 0.008 on next year SG50 celebration ... -_-

Give me more, I spend more ... [cool]

Not like others who spend $2.3miilion on 'grass' that simply won't grow.. [grin]

Try talking that to mnc hr. They will tell u, the pay package is base on 52 weeks divide by 12 month. u want to take weekly wages then they just reduce pay.

If one minus the 14 days leave : 29 - 14 = 15 days

Minus 11 public holidays : 15 - 11 = 4 days

So they eat us 4 days........

But if I take 8 days MC per year, 2 days Child Care Leave and another 2 days Parents Care leave = 12 days

So 12 days minus 4 days = - 8 days.

Hmmmmm.......... employer lost 8 days work ... [lipsrsealed] (better keep quite)

[laugh]

The 13th month, though called nicely as "bonus" by some companies, is actually just for peasants like us to pay off income tax .....

So, don't really have bonus after-all ...

Anyway, time for us to donate to charities if we have the means ...

If $ is tight, perhaps can donate some usable clothing too... or even pass down some household items and books :))

A little giveaway, will bring lots of joys :))

7.7% tax rate is not too bad. That is like 13 x $5k (before deductibles) and paying $5k taxes. ^_^

CPF is tax deductible, then got personal relief, then got child relief if any, then.....

end up $5K pay is paying less than $2K tax.

Where is the calculation that say we only work 1 day a year?

So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for.

There are 365 days per year available for work.

There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.

Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.

You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available.

With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.

You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave. This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work.

We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days.

We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work and I'll be darned if you are going to take that day off!
