Neutrino Supercharged December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 Another topic got me to write this. Both my parents already dead and the missuses father as well so only the wife's mother still around. Although she's lost a lot of near term memory,slight dementia, her long term memory is amazing. So for a year or so we've been asking her to tell us about her forfathers and relatives. Based on this info we've drawn up my wife's family tree which is impossible to do without this memory. Most of this family tree has been confirmed with other relatives who couldn't remember to begin with but on prompting by my mil and chatting together they all remember. We've gone back to 1885 with a forfather who was born in Singapore although some of the older members were immigrants from China. We've discussed it all with many relations who have found it very interesting and many even the younger ones have asked for copies of the tree. Without the memory of my mil none of this would have been possible and who knows how much longer she'll be around. Maybe not many of you will be interested with your ancestors history, where they lived, when they moved here and where from, how they survived in the wars, WW1 and WW2 but it can be fascinating. Sit with the oldies and load up the Ancestry app that shows a visual tree. Whether someone is your senior or your junior when reunited. For some clans, words from the "poem" is the "middle" name. I think few people follow this in today's context... Jamesc Hypersonic December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 I bought a book and wrote my name in it and will pass to my kids to pass on to their children to add their names. 1000 years from now, my great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great children will know their family tree. I wish my great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great father did that for me. I guess he was an African and maybe don't know how to read. But more imporatntly I kept a small bag of 1 cent coins some of them square coins for my great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great children so that they can sell it one day and be rich. I just wished my great great great great great great great great great great great great father left me a 1 cent coin and I could sell that and don't have to work anymore. Akchewlee a friend of my wife's already did that in Hainan. Unfortunatly except knowing that my wife's father originated sometime in Hainan we only know about the Singapore end. It shows my family tree dating back 500 years. My ancestors are basically slave servants and the offsprings continued to serve the master household for generations. Olden days, the servants have no surname, so they adopted the surname of the Master. The family tree only document the names of sons and not daughters. Each generation is survived by 1 son, as the other died (probably due to health or disease). Only till my generation, I have another brother. Each of us have a son. My brother and me will continue this tradition and preserve this precious book for our future generations. He came to Perak during the 1900s and struck it well owning a provision shop there. But the WW2 and some greedy relatives changed our fortunes.
