Donut Supercharged December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 Hi all, i got some kitchen tiles that are not v well done. Been like this for past 10-12 years with no problem. just that i get abit irritated sometimes. i want to diy some repairs, is there something like epoxy or adhesive liquid that i can inject into the grout? some grout lines have no cement, so there are gaps where i can inject the tiles are not cracked or damaged. just that some have hollow sound or loose. ↡ Advertisement

Hollow sounding tiles is due to insufficient mortar cement under the tile during the laying process. Grouting from gaps between tile won't help. Unfortunately, the proper solution is to hack & re-tile.

In my experience, I also thought that nothing will happen to the 10 years old (IIRC) the kitchen tiles as they are smaller and thicker.... until they popped. Volvobrick Supersonic December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 My parent's flat built in the late 80's till today tiles still very solid. Workmanship then was much much better.
Extinguisher 6th Gear December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 Yes hollow tiles will be at risk of popping. Happened to me last time in the middle of the night. Woke up by the sound of exploding tiles. Once they pop, the whole lot will all pop.
Kangadrool Supersonic December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 Do nothing is the best solution. This mostly will happen to all homogeneous tiles due to or Huay shrinking over time. ↡ Advertisement
