RIP, my friend............ [smallcry][smallcry]

:D:D[thumbsup]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense , who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
If you still remember him, pass this on.
If not, join the majority and do nothing.

How come never mention his best friend by the name " Dollar Cents " [laugh]

How apt. This forum as a general is obsessed with money - or maybe it's a Singapore thing. People talk about not lending $ to making sound financial management every chance they get. People here get so uptight that i think they failed to live life for what it is. My Cash Forum 😂

We need to have a sense of contentment...

With this contentment, everything in life will be simple :)

Contentment is good, but without aspirations, we wouldn't improve.

Need to have common sense to know when to be content, and what to be content with, and what else to aspire for. =D

I think it's a Singapore thing. People are way too obsessed with money on this little island.

Reading this reminded of a BBC podcast where the famous author Agatha Christi's grandson remarked how she never wanted fame... but how easily it came to her and how she couldn't get rid of it.

It's rare nowadays for people to not want fame... being a celeb and all.

Fame/Infamy is the bane of our good sense.

A few stories here. Loosely related to common sense.

A man found himself tossed about in the ocean after his sailboat sank. In despair, he cried out to God. In a vision, God told him help is on the way.

A rescue boat came and the sailor beckoned him to swim towards the boat.

"No! God will save me," the drowning man shouted back.

The rescue boat left and a rescue helicopter came. Through the searchlight, the pilot spotted him and lowered a winch.

"No! God will save me," the drowning man shouted to the aircrew who was with the winch.

The helicopter left and the man drowned. He went to heaven and met God.

"Lord," he cried. " Did you not promise to save me?"

"Well," God replied. " I did send you the rescue boat and helicopter....."

Another one.

Imagine you can only walk in a straight line through a field. You can only pick one flower. You can move forwards but not backwards. What would you do?

A man with low confidence in finding a good flower will pick the first flower he sees.

A contented man would pick the first beautiful flower he sees.

A man who is not contented would keep walking through, hoping to find the perfect flower and never picking one until he has reached the end of the field and realises it is too late as he cannot go back.

Some common sense lessons in these stories.
