This type of news always keep me wondering if what I am doing is right. I exercise or run hard, to the point of exhaustion almost every session.

Research has been done and running is indeed bad for the heart.

Dun over exert yourself, go slow.... those practice tai ji can live very long :D

I guess the lesson we should pick up is when you have chest pains when under strain, forget google - head straight for the doc

Sometimes a wrong decision will change you and your family's life forever.

If u are telling me an uneducated housewife or a blue collared uncle/aunty, I still find it perfectly ok to be ignorant.

A youngish well educated man who teaches physical education as a living ... ...

just to input for those whom are above 40++ and very active.... do the stress (thread mill stress test) at least once in about 2-3 years... I do that due to my long runs.... National Heart Centre does it.... I think it costs about $200-300 (if you go thru' polyclinic) route.... apart from the usual cholesterol LDL/HDL stuff

Hope this info is of help..... or $0.02 worth of input

if you are above 40++....just say that you felt some chest pains here and there(sort of goreng here and there) and cant really pin point the feeling and say you are very very active ... and if got family history of cardiac arrests... doctor at polyclinic wont even ask further and give you referral letter immediately to national heart centre....SATA and private clinics do it but I feel SGH one is more comprehensive as they do both going full stress (depending on how much inclination you can take to the max ) and also resting stage.

OK, thanks. Just want to make sure they don't do "funny" things to us first.

Thanks, I was referred to a specialist after routine medical check up at a private hospital, went through another ECG, a week later took the stress test total spent couple thousand.

Think National heart centre could be a better choice for doing the test.

.... of course they will at the same time do the necessary blood tests for chloresterol/ diabetes....etc at the same time ... at the polyclinic.... anyway most of the govt hospitals can access the information nowadays.... as waiting time at NHC can be quite some time
