Man Utd is tracking this wonderkid dubbed as the next Robben

interesting.... reminds me of the past wonderkids who were dubbed the next so and so.... some lived up to the expectation, but many failed spectacularly

the most successful is of cos:

Messi - next Maradona (except that he hasn't win the World Cup for Argentina yet)

others:

Robinho - next Pele (full of fanciful tricks, won many trophies but still failed imo)

Bruno Cheyrou - next Zidane (who remembers this chap? Liverpool bought him but he couldn't really make it)

Lassana Diarra - next Makelele (looks like Makelele but played nothing like the legendary DM)

Romelu Lukaku - next Drogba (still got many years to prove himself... after all Drogba was a late bloomer)

Paul Pogba - next Vieira (may even exceed the legend himself in another few years)

Harry Kane - next Sheringham (looks like a good deal, hope he can make it!)

who else you can think of?

pogba seems a much more complete player thaN viera. Can dribble and shoot . Very all rounded .

Kane is more like a shearer than sheringham I think. Sheringham ia more of a creator than a goal scorer. Didn't really seem him as a goal poacher type.

Nit sure kane is just a flash in the pan. Maybe just a one season wonder like benteke.

Other wonder kids that failed

Denilson of real betis. Once upon a time most exp player in the world.

Joe cole? Magical feet but somehow just never made it to the top top level.

Raven Morrison. Ex manure player. Was rated very very highly but the manure staffs but Ferguson let him go due to discipline issues.

The list goes on and on

Well. there are happy stories as well.

Owen. Scored some disgusting number of goals as a child.

Hazard. Finally living up to his potential (the antithesis of joe cole, they are very similar type of players).

Owen Hargraves.

I wonder how he was hyped in the first place, but perhaps it was the injuries, like Michael Owen. I don't know.

I would say next to C Ronaldo n Messi, it would be Eden Hazard. So skilful and tricky such that he should succeed those 2 given his age.

Neymar also could rise to the top but he's abit inconsistent.

Hypersonic

in SG, we have hariss harun who did turn out good and is now Singapore's captain.

I remember him being touted as a star since he was 13-14 years old.

He is Dutch, so the hype could be on to something.

If its another English talented kid, then forget about it.

we have a "new Messi" coming...

Blues target 'the new Messi'

Labeling a youngster "the new Lionel Messi" is akin to watching a child rattle through "Old MacDonald" on a piano and declare them the next Mozart, but Transfer Talk won't let that label get in the way of a good rumour!

The Express reports that Chelsea are after 18-year-old Andrija Zivkovic from Partizan Belgrade, with the Serbian winger likened to Barcelona's talisman due to his impressive displays from 17 onwards at international level.

his profile: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrija_%C5%BDivkovi%C4%87

youngest player ever to make a senior appearance for the Serbian national team, as well as the youngest Partizan captain ever.

Too many "new Messi"s... I think having a Messi is a generational thing. HIs stats have not been seen for past decade or more and its only Cristiano Ronaldo who is working his socks off to reach anywhere near Messi's level.

After Messi retires in 5+ years' time, we have to get used to normal "superstar" type of football like those of Ronaldino, ROnaldo, Henry kind again. Till then, lets enjoy Messi's football! :DD

watch out for the name Lee Seung Woo

look set to be promoted from Barca B to the senior squad

only 17 year old, and dubbed as the Korean Messi

Lee Seung Woo (Hangul: 이승우) is a South Korean youth footballer who plays center forward/striker for FC Barcelona B team in the La Masia football academy, and for the U-18 South Korean National Football Team. Nicknamed the "Korean Messi" by the media, he is currently regarded as one the best footballing prodigies in the world.

messi is indeed one of the best player ever... maybe even the best in terms of skill

but i have a feeling he will retire nowhere near the greats of maradona, pele or ronaldo

these players were great not only because of their ability, but they are able to rise up in the big impt games and become heroes for their countries

i've not seen pele or maradona played in their prime, but have seen how ronaldo almost didnt have any game time for 2 years and recovered just in time for the world cup finals of 2002, lifted a struggling brazil team and won the world cup and golden boot

that alone warrants him to be a football legend

Agreed, a great has to win either the World Cup or regional championship (Euros, Copa etc) with his country at least once. I would also add he should not remain in his comfort zone but instead venture out to a different league to challenge himself.

Messi despite his outrageous skill has done neither of the above. C Ronaldo has competed in both EPL and La Liga so he did challenge himself [thumbsup] and if the unlikely happens with Portugal winning either the WC or Euros, I would put him above Messi.

Don't bash me, I know CR7 has an attitude unlike the humble Messi but football facts should always be the determining factor for measurement.
