Mkl22 Twincharged January 13, 2017 Share January 13, 2017 I'm with u on this diesel engine thingy... am a mechanical guy by training. Diesel engine has much better torque than petrol one by design especially on the lower ends... regardless of turbo boosts; which explains why diesel engines are used solely in the lorries and heavy vehicles. Just compare any similar cars and you will always find diesel engine having much higher torque than petrol's.... just dont compare it with those v12/16 petrol engines. Diesel cars in Singapore will die a sudden death like cng. The end is near.
Mkl22 Twincharged January 13, 2017 Share January 13, 2017 Your butt must be very fleshy and numb :) to not feel the difference between 8.5s and 10.9s.A4 best in Singapore JB and some say batam la. The 0-100 times are taken with car launched. Who drives like that. Depending on gearing and amount of accelerator pressure used in normal driving the difference might not be that obvious. If you cap the max revs to 3k maybe the difference might closer. So stop throwing out all these timed acceleration figures which matter less in daily driving
civic5163 1st Gear January 13, 2017 Share January 13, 2017 (edited) I think there is no argument over which car has more torque. It's as clear as day. And pretty much on paper. :) It's right in the ballpark. For example, a Mazda 6 has abt 160bhp/210Nm with a 1,400++ kg weight and does 0-100kmh in 10.5s A3 has 45bhp and 10Nm less, but less weight and probably quicker gear set up meant it's 0-100kmh is slightly quicker. Both are hardly hot rods totally agreed... cant just look at the face value alone especially horsepower. the power-to-weight ratio is much more meaningful... also certain technolody like the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) , among others, plays a very important role in determining the pick up speed. DCT is the fastest transmission in this world right now.... which is why F1 formula cars use DCT only (pun intended) to gear shift. More importantly, our A3s use DCT as well. I don't know about you but compared to my previous 1.6 Jap, it is darn obvious the a3 is quicker under normal driving conditions without needing to analyse using your complicated "theory" above. porkfloss 1st Gear January 14, 2017 Share January 14, 2017 Hi, How's the pick up for A3? Just wondering if it is underpowered as driving a 2L jap car. Is the fuel consumption good? I happen to drive a 2.0L jap car and I find that the pick up for A3 is good and smooth. I don't experience any drag. Very pleasant driving experience. The insulation etc. I have try other bigger Audi models which is pleasant and i wonder if a 1.0L car is as quiet. I agree with bro porkfloss experience, I owned a 2litre Korean car, hyundai tucson before this. The pick up of this 1lt sedan was actually better than my old car, I guess the overall lighter weight and the turbo charger really helps. Of course it's not really fair to compare this newer engine with turbo to a 07' 2lt car, but I was already very comfortable with my old ride, so I'm a lookout for one that's either on par or better. This a3 with a much much lower road tax of $394 vs $1212, lower insurance premium and lower cost of fuel is already a win for me. The smooth acceleration of this 1.0litre car during my test drive back in dec last year, helped to seal the deal. I'm still into my first full tank of 98 currently, so can't speak much of its FC yet. So far, it's been about 6litre/100km, with 40% highway, 60% urban, clocked 400km, fuel gauge one bar to reaching half tank mark. Vry decent imo In term of cabin noise, it's quite subjective to individual, so it's best to test drive it yourself with the volume of radio or your own phone music set at your preference. From my experience so far, I could hardly hear the noise from the road, as I usually have my radio on, the volume is quite low though, as wife doesn't like it being too loud. But im sure the car can do with a set of nicer looking and bigger rims to complete it. I personally don't like the stock 16" rim.

But over rough or broken tarmac tyre and suspension noise is quite intrusive. Hardly class leading. However on good surface cabin is quite hush.

OnionThoughts Neutral Newbie January 14, 2017 Share January 14, 2017 Would like to check with you guys if you're experiencing any "delay" with the touch-to-lock function. Sometimes when i close the door and place my thumb on the door handle, the lock does not happen immediately. i have to try multiple times for it to work. Seems to happen for the passenger side as well, so i doubt the sensor itself is faulty. Does it have to do with the programming?

Not as bad deal as the 1.99% interest vs 2.68% interest can make a difference. For 50k over 7 years, you will pay additional 2.4k interest. ↡ Advertisement
