The key thing about how to make any martial art effective is speed. You can see that the guy moves fast. If slow to react or strike... any martial art also no use [laugh]

hi,

its not really 100% or entirely about speed..... but rather 'quickness' in achieving your purpose, i.e. to knock, lock, hold, choke or grip etc.... to reach that "quickness" in mind and hand - obviously practices & practices & training etc. make perfect.....

its about that technix 1st identified by Wing Chun, popularised by Bruce Lee ..... called the 1 inch punch.....

today, this "1 inch punch" is developed into Systema punches where it comprises of a combo of position, block, jerk, chop & punch etc. all at the same function . . . . to the Taiji, its referred as 'borrow strength to return strength" . . .

TS is right that this is for close range combat, not attack or applicable in MMA.

to apply systema moves, you MUST know your physique compared with your opponent(s)!

if you notice, all those spar with DK Yoo, their heights, stretches etc. were same or smaller........

in another words, you will adopt a more defensive stance towards a taller, bigger and long reach opponent and strike within or smaller range whenever possible......

your own's position, location of your shoulder to elbow to fist etc . . . to make that swing or block actually reduces your opponents flank thus lowering the damages to yourself if you are hit.

I managed to KO a young lad with combo of Muay Thai & Systema recently (a braw in a Chinese pub)..... but I know I'd be dead if I prolonged the fight coz I'm no longer young, strong and swift with stamina like them..... so, the rest controlled themselves after 1 is down, that allowed me to walk out unharmed momentarily.....

phew, I was well backed-up later, or else . . .

the chinese & russia army have been practising systema combats for years where they can kill within a strike, or choke merely with fingers, though the strength is obvious, there are actually weaknesses in Systema too . . . .

well, I gotta agree with you on . . . "if slow to react or strike...... any martial also no use"

that's very very true.......slow to react! whether if your reaction is to counter-attack, or to ward off - you MUST have a strategy in mind..... do I need to fight, to win or to lose?

for me, I'm not young, fast or strong anymore.....

not to mention that your opponent may actually remains standing, stare into your eyes asking for more after taken your toughest blows!

to date, the best I could do is applied on what I have learnt all those years, just to minimise damages to myself if possible, and end or ward it off if there's a need to . . . of coz, best is to avoid or run away from all these.....

afterall, my body may not be able to take it anymore.....

"if you really need to have that fight, you must portrayed to your opponent that you are NOT the agressor, its him! "

this is what carved inside my head forever . . . .
