500旅客受影响

营业13年的乐乐假期旅行社,昨天突然关门,贴通告宣布停业,超过500旅客受影响,单本周末就有近300名学生和旅客受波及。

rough translate;

Asia-euro holidays travel agency closed down suddenly yesterday, which has been in the travel-related business for years. Notices were put up on their shops at Chinatown Point and is believed that more than 500 customers were affected, including close to 300 students planning for trips this weekend.

Everyone of these travel agents closed suddenly, leaving travellers in the lurch. Noone went away honorably when the writing is already on the wall (how to survive with all the online sites eating your lunch). Lesson is never use a travel agent especially when they are cheap.

Hypersonic

Competition is stiff and profit margins are tight ....

With the smaller agencies out, the benefits will be on the bigger players like Chan Bros, ASA, Dynasty, etc....

Still, they must innovate to include more DIY and online booking for customers as customers have become more tech-savvy....

There is still a market, just that the market has become smaller....

That's quite funny. They don't need to give permission for people to sue them.

Turbocharged

If the affected customers have purchased travel insurance beforehand, would they be covered?

what is the travel insurance deposit for travel company to put in huh? $1M

$1M / 500 customers = $2000 nia ...

if $1M deposit can con 500 or even more customers ... it's a lucrative business for scammer

I dont think the package they charged me was cheap. And they also didnt do a meticulous job of providing the itinerary. I almost had to miss my connecting flight because of their lack of meticulousness.

I actually found a scotland land tour package online that i liked. But i still booked the same tour with them at higher price thinking they could help link up with the agency in scotland better.

Turns out they also never directly communicate with them and only passed me the publicly available itinerary of the tour.

some customers may have bought travel insurance through travel agents and if agent didn't transact before declaring toh tiow, then LLST.

If you have bought before that, it should be safe. But then, insurance also full of loopholes for them to tekan you. Better check the fine prints.

You are right some what. However, there are instances that package tour through travel agents is cheaper.

I went to the recent Revolution Tour held at MBS, and saw a package to central Europe scheduled for November by one agency going for less than $2600, 11-day package.

A quick behind-the-envolope calculation showed the price very very reasonable:

Eg, for 2 pax:

Emirates Air 2-way approx $3000

Hotels 10 days approx $200

Tpt??

Food??

Places of interests (though mostly free museums, parks kind of places, with some that require tickets) ????

Etc

Quite worth, i thought.

If people don't understand the risk they are putting their money with tour agencies after so many cases....well, they deserve it.

no doubt travel package is cheaper than DIY ... 101% guarantee

the problem with travel package is limited free time and tight schedule

it's like hops on hops off

go to a travel spot ... snap picture 1/2 hour and hop on to the bus again

i have not taken any travel package for the last 10 years holiday trip

places like vietnam, cambodia, etc ... can DIY and then join their local tours for places that is hard to go by ownself

usa/europe/japan/korea/taiwan/australia/nz/etc - why need travel agency?
