some customers may have bought travel insurance through travel agents and if agent didn't transact before declaring toh tiow, then LLST.

If you have bought before that, it should be safe. But then, insurance also full of loopholes for them to tekan you. Better check the fine prints.

They should have issue you with cover note bearing insurance company n ref number when you make payment for travel insurance. Atleast this is governed by GIA.

Looks like the company went bust and going thru liquidation.

At least still can claim thru SCT. If the owner absconded dan it's really yam kong for the customers. A bit troublesome but still better dan being hung out to dry.

Buying holiday package from travel agency quite risky nowadays, esp if you buy and travel few months later! Think still best is DIY, buy air ticket and hotel through website?!

hotel through website is also a risk

currently, the big website are agoda.com, expedia.com, hotels.com, booking.com ... if they went bust they also run road with hundreds of millions

because every month they got hundreds of thousands to millions of bookings

Said this b4 n say again.

Why on earth in this day n age wif all the available info n cheaper hotel/airfare & local tour booking available online would anyone go to a travel agent for their booking??? Maciam hv to physically go meet ur insurance agent just to buy travel insurance.....

There is still a market for it, especially for older folks who are not tech -savvy, don't understand English... and also for families who want hassle-free travel ....

Also, schools engage these agencies for students tour ....

So, there is still a demand... else we won't see so many travel agencies in travel fairs....

well said. there is still a need for travel agency.

but those who can travel DIY ... please don't use agency ... you actually don't enjoy using travel agency if you can make your own plans

If they ever run roads, whom can we ask for refund?

Are they registered as companies in Singapore?

There's always a big IF ....

Agreed :)

Unless we really don't want to drive... and just want to travel in groups, reach a place and eat immediately and then reach hotel to sleep itinerary ....

Not true lah.... Most of these are intermediaries, you pay direct to hotels and they take a cut. Hotels also don't want to take their risks lah. Anyway, most are giants, so less chance of them screwing you than privately owned travel agents.

Same reason why people still queue up at post office to pay for their SP power and phone bills.

Some people just don't like online no matter what.

Anyway, when come to travel, some people like to go local tour agencies because can be more personal, it's cheaper, and it's a local tour guide who can speak local language which is assuring to some.

Own plans also a lot of risk especially in a foreign country and you can't speak their language.

IMO, DIY for younger more adventurous folks, agency for older folks who wants assurance, less hassle, less legwork and didn't want to spend the effort of planning.

Too be fair, there are still travelers who prefer a hassle free holiday where u just go thru a travel agency n they do everything for u from hotel booking, flights n land tours. Sometimes it's cheaper as well cos they book in bulk n u do get cost savings. Downside is the unnecessary visits to places where u may not be interested in. Older folk prefer this way though. My sympathies to the affected customers and hope they get some respite either thru travel insurance or small claims tribunal.

Travel agency dealing with public sales will close down one by one.

Im waiting for the day Chan Sister to close shop and see how many will be affected.

In today market, everyone so tech-savvy.

Travel agency can only make profit from corporate sales.

Corporate company cannot live without travel agency.

I don't foresee bigger travel agency closing down... cos ppl still need them...

Yes, we are tech savvy, I mean most of the younger generations....

But when we come to old aged, say abt 65+, and we still want to travel... do we go book ourselves and drive ourselves?

Not really.... and if wanna go china and travel, its always good to book thru a travel agency, cos they will take care of your needs when you are aged, and hardly able to walk long distance ....

Just buy tickets online (it is cheaper than agent), fly there and take land tour packages, cheaper and more varieties to choose from. Not sure which is good? Just google or take those recommended by the hotels.

DIY is the best, planning is part of the fun and allows you to know your destination better.

奸商当道

They are kill by the competition from online lah...

So far all my holiday for recent years all book through online...Air ticket, Hotel, car rental etc....

For online Hotel booking I will always email Hotel to confirm they received booking from online agent.

Maybe I will only go to a travel agent If the destination is difficult for F & E.

I agree with you, but only because I'm from the younger generation who's been used to booking stuff online (ala carte) and planning my own trips.

Older folks, families, they all just want to visit a place, be brought around, no need to worry about planning or liaising with hotels / transport, no need to find out how to go from one place to another. Some people just want the convenience. Besides, if for bigger groups, it'll be harder to fit everyone's requirements in, and people will grumble about not going to a certain place. With a travel agency tour, I think most will just guai guai follow. And kena chopped carrot at the jewellery shops.
