Anyone know good ones, and where to get? eBay seems to have some...

Preferrably RPM & speedometer.

Taobao has the widest range. But it's troublesome to buy there. Ebay has fewer choices and prices are higher. Try aliexpress. I got mine recently from there.

I was originally very interested in HUD a few years ago (and still am), but it's always the case of how good the HUD is cos of the reflection of the sun on the glass.

but ^this, this looks like a good replacement for what I want actually. Like upgrade to civic with digital speedo haha. I'm quite keen on buying

Bro,

I bought something like this before for my Mini, I mainly needed the speedo function but thought the Rev Counter would look cool also. My experiences with a similar product

http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/206510556.html?orderId=1019067597

1. Built quality was okay, plastic didn't fit well and everything kind of rough.

2. The film supplied was also crap & thin, leave bubbles despite how you install and it creased, but this can replace with a better piece from a local tinting shop (get a small more reflective piece)

3. When driving it looked okay, but not great. Sometimes abit dim (maybe cause of the film)

4. BUT WORSE, my car left overnight next day battery flat liao, Mini service jumped started the car but the battery was so flat even driving around for one hour cannot charge it. Had to replace the battery (under warranty)

Of course before I bought the seller assured this works for Mini, after I complain he said not so sure. He did refund me though, personally any of such devices from aliexpress I would question it after that experience.

I bought a GPS Speedo HUD from Ebay (made in TW) instead plus in via cig lighter, worked like a charm. Best of all my car can be parked under a hot sun for a day and when I get in it will work (compared to the blackvue which didn't)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GPS-HUD-Head-Up-Display-Speedometer-quick-and-easy-installation-/201352754003?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee18f3353

To be frank if it ain't from Tw or Korea I would be bit cautious, if you intend to try one of these please measure your battery level after 4 hours to be sure its not draining the system.

hmm, this kind is not a projection. Not what I'm looking for.

Looking for this type:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.23.fpS2oC&id=43418722070&ns=1&abbucket=8#detail

but don't know which are reliable or good quality...

read one review for one available on amazon, they say the power drain depends on the car... some cars don't supply OBD power unless activated.

Seems most are from China. All look cheap made and what not...

this one looks like what I'm after:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.259.fpS2oC&id=16306721848&ns=1&abbucket=8#detail

but always uncertain how good the quality is until you get it.

I think the dimness cannot help so much without an original design. It's fair enough imo...

Well the GPS HUD I got was okay during night or day but the heat resistance impressed me most, the link you sent I think is similar to the one I got from aliexpress but maybe with some tweaks. I think for 60 bucks is to just try it and see how it goes, fingers cross they have some circuitry to cut off the OBD power when not in use. Monitor it and worse case if cannot see can refund or not.

For my current car I decided to use a Bluetooth OBD and a android phone running race meter attached to the windshield, so far works quite well, it has a HUD mode too but not using that.

I would stay away from such device, especially those made in China.

The way they make the circuit board is questionable. Dunno what cheap material they use also. It might damage your car's circuit, be it lighting, aircon etc.

If you want to use an OBDII device be it diagnostic tool or whatever make very sure it has an auto off function when ignition is off or else it will just drain your car battery dry if you do not unplug it.

I find the hud distraction and usually only work well at night

Not used to the analog speedometer in my new car, I bought a HUD and place the reflective film high on the windscreen (rear mirror height) and adjusted the HUD accordingly (closer to the driver side of the dashboad) and it didn't look distractive at all.  I just need to look slightly up to check the speed.  And it is bright enough to be seen most of the time (except under very bright sunlight).

Furthermore, I can set a speed limit for the alarm to beep when I exceed it.

And the HUD will auto off when you off the car engine.

You will need to set the brightness to max in order to still be able to see clearly under bright sunlight.

Thanks for the info. I will check and find out more. [;)]

Waoh, this one got color, lagi better. Thanks

Can this be use on Toyota wish 06 model?

You need to check your car, if got OBD II or not. If got, then can buy and try lor. [cool]

Was at Comex earlier and came across this new HUD called iScout. It was developed in India and Singapore, actual product is made in China. Not yet available, its coming in in Nov. Cost $280 now with free shipping. Prices will increase after launching. http://www.spadetechs.com/iscout

Got a whole range of features,

-Navigation

-calls from mobile phone

-Blindspot camera

-etc.....

I asked them about the navigation and apparently, it will be the same maps as per Tomtom GPS map. Subscription is for life. It will update the map thru the app.

The biggest headache abt HUD is the reflective surface. Theirs is made from photochromic plastic which will darken under bright sunlight. I told him that most cars in SG have UV window film. Then he told me it will not work. :a-bang: Upon hearing that, I just walked away.

Its a good product but the visibility in bright sunlight is still [shakehead]
