Solar Turbocharged July 7, 2015 Share July 7, 2015 Do you guys do cost averaging when buying etf? Yes, but with my SRS. Instead of letting it sit idle, I instructed ocbc deduct 1k a month, which will last till the next SRS contribution. Like Lala said, hwz has quite extensive discussions on local and certain overseas etf u can check out.

oleandero 5th Gear July 8, 2015 Share July 8, 2015 that's like betting in a casino.. buy 100 black.. open red.. double it on black till it becomes correct ? an example extracted from http://www.theshapeofmoney.co.nz/before-you-invest/dollar-cost-averaging/a-simple-example-of-dollar-cost-averaging.asp Introduction to dollar cost averagingYou're able to regularly save $100 per month. In May, the units cost $1 each, so you're able to buy 100 units. In June, the cost of the units falls to 95c, so you're able to buy 105 units. In July, the cost of the units again falls, this time to 85c, so you're able to buy 118 units. In August, the cost of the units rises to $1.05, so you're able to buy 95 units. At the end of August, you own 418 units. The cost of the units is now $1.05, so your total investment is worth $439. The cost of your 418 units over the four months was $400, so the average cost of each unit was 96c. Your investment has increased from $400 to $439.
ralphlim 1st Gear July 8, 2015 Share July 8, 2015 ETF uses dollar costs averaging to generate returns, this is a proven investment strategy and quite safe is nature. you need to take a medium to long term approach for ETF but don't expect high/big returns Its a steady tool for retail investors who do not want to go into equities, stock, contra etc or no time to monitor the market. I think the Nikko one is a good example Yes, there is a small sales charge but that is normal, even you buy stock, broker also charge commission. You buy insurance policy, also have a policy costs that is taken out from your premium, returns etc but that sales charge is much lesser For those who contribute to SRS, its an ideal tool. Not to mention, when you look at ROI on SRS, you must factor in the tax savings which you get when you contribute. Its paper money which you can gain because your taxable incomes is reduced by $12,750/yr, thus lowering your tax bracket
