Are they still doing the short wheel base (previously was 2-door) and long wheel base (called Grand Vitara) like in the 90s?

I think ppl are starting to compare it with the 2.0L/2.4L Grand Vitara of the past.

Thanks for the info!!

I've really lost touch on where cars are made. Just realized not all Jazz is MIJ (though ours is MIJ)

and now find out that Vitara Made in Hungary!!! Times have certainly changed and perhaps answers why it's priced so competitively!!

very fair price.

just realised that although the vitara is 100mm shorter in the wheelbase you get a 6AT instead of the CVT in the s-cross. wonder if it works better.

Good question on the 6AT v CVT, I wonder as well?

S-cross is MIJ right? It's priced very near this new Vitara but Vitara 4WD!!

if you look at the price list, you will see a 4WD s-cross too. Vitara looks better to me.

Sorry, didn't notice the 4WD on S-cross (probably cos it doesn't catch my eye).

Will take a closer look at these 2 when I go Motorshow next Saturday, thks for the heads up.

In the old days, Vitara sold reasonably well considering Suzuki is more known for their bikes so nice to see an old name come back to life again!!

Think you are right that there's some mix-up between Vitara which was 2 door as you have rightfully pointed out and Grand Vitara which was the grand old dame of SUV if I remember correctly.

Think it was an SUV right? which were few and far between in the old days!

There is an ad for Vitara in straits times today

$106900 with free urban / rugged accessories worth $4k

It has engine auto start stop system.

17" rims

All round parking sensors - I wonder does it mean all four corners and, when I am driving out of a parking spot it will still give warning ?

Paddle shift n cruise control

Overseas article mentioned self braking system. No mention here. I heard QQ has it but not advertised much either. Not sure what's the reason.

Anyone went to the showroom pls share more info. Thanks.

Like the S-Cross, the Vitara is built in Hungary I believe.

The last time I spoke to one SE in the 2015 motorshow, they offered me $1K off if trading in an old Suzuki... or was it $500? Certainly no more than $1K.

$500-$1k is not much if they say this is loyalty. At Nissan I can get this 'extra' because the SE was trying to close the deal.

I don't understand if paddle shifter and cruise control is suitable for Singapore road which has too many traffic light, and express way jam... can anyone share their opinion? And also 4wd thing....isn't this all useless extra?

Paddle shift is useful for engine braking, let say exiting Highway, you can drop 2 or 3 gears for maximum control, cruise control is good to use on empty highway like KPE,so you won't exceed the speed limit...& for 4WD,i think the Vitara can be run on the rear wheel only...

paddle shift helps when you wanna take advantage of a gap in traffic; downshift twice and gun it.

cruise control.. well, only useful when you go up north i guess.

I trust old style gearbox more.

I think cvt costs more on maintenance. Correct me if I am wrong.

So far from what I read from the brochure , I has most of the features I ask for except reverse camera. I think the free front n back camera from the show promo is recorder only.

Vitara is a Off Roader SUV,it nees a 'tough' gearbox for slope climbing,CVT won't able to cope with the Duty.

I don't think the new Vitara has the old 4L Lock mode (i.e. 4-wheel drive Low gear Lock mode) that was in the older Vitara's that enabled more tougher off-roading.

The new Vitara is what the industry calls a soft-roader.

For that duty, Subaru's CVT will probably be just as good for slope climbing, and maybe even better as the CVT can cope with change in slope angle without loss of momentum (because the CVT is always engaged to the engine to allow it to continuously drive the wheels even when changing gear) whereas for a normal automatic gearbox, there will be a loss of momentum each time there is a change of gear as the transmission temporarily disengage from the engine to change to new gear.  Also the CVT allows for a wider range of gear ratios which may allow the Subaru to have better slope climbing ability

I used to drive a manual suzuki jimny, 2 to 4 wheels selectable, rugged true offroad vehicle with additional options for 4 wd low drive, meaning higher torque low speed for off road terrain.

By default it runs on 2wd rear and if rains heavily, using 4wd gets a perfect grips on the roads but can taxing on FC.

Inquire CM last year on the new vitara but they couldn't give me definite answer on the sspecifications or availability. Ends up I opt for Nissan instead.

Cruise control on my current nissan is useful on a free highway, also to maintain a constant speed for better FC, and helps too at speed camera...

Nowadays, CVT fluid no need to change.

Supposed to last lifetime of car (10 years in Singapore?).

So no maintenance cost.

Main cost is if you keep till really old and it breaks down.

Then replacement/repair of normal AT usually cheaper than CVT but who knows, maybe many years down the road when CVT is more common, that will change.

The other issue is how well tested is the CVT.  Some initial designs had lots of problems but nowadays seem much better.

Best not subscribe to lifetime AT/CVT or even MT transmission oil.

Best not subscribe to lifetime AT/CVT or even MT transmission oil.

The risks to change oil for CVT are:

- each CVT design has its different CVT oil and the technicians hardly change this at all (and so not experienced in this). So if they use wrong oil, they spoil the whole CVT as CVT is very sensitive to the oil used

- the inside of the CVT needs to be as clean as possible.  if technician is very messy and introduce particles into the oil, it can also destroy the CVT

So if want to change CVT oil, suggest buy the correct oil and bring to the workshop to make sure they use the right oil.

Go the CVT specialists who hopefully, know what they are doing

Perhaps can try them http://jpowertrain.com/our-service/ (seem to be the only people specialising in transmissions in Singapore)

Champion Motors changed the CVT fluid in my Kizashi at 40, 000km as part of the standard service schedule. Same gearbox as in the Nissan Murano apparently. Doubt they will tell you S-Cross trannys are sealed for life. Anyway the Vitara is not on a CVT but a normal auto box.
