Hmm. So the write up is good or bad?

Sounded like saying the 116d is not that attractive or fashionable as compared to the bigger series.

But with that price, i feel much better to gt this rather than other jap car....

Reading the article, I would have to say that overall, not very good in terms of the car n what it offer relative to the price that one pay for.

In terms of buying into the badge's prestige, it's ok/not bad. In another word, its akin to buying the 'cheapest' model within a branded Brand.

Choice between being a Big fish in a small pond or small fish in a big pond. Choices choices 😏

I like your example... I also have similar thinking.. ;)

Bigger Car Small Brand or Smaller Car Big Brand... ;)

Do not read too much on car review, everybody have their own opinion and like and dislike. If you think this is the way to go, just follow your heart. Start with the 1 series, if the drive experience is good, than upgrade to a higher series at a later time. Lol.

As what some bros have mentioned to each his own so don't bother too much on the write ups but do compare with the Benz a180 cos it's about the same price though it's a petrol

Sat in a Benz B180 recently. Don't really like the interior and Door dont feel solid.

I am one of those that like the doors to feel solid when closing, just not sure how to describe that kind of feel. Some car make is door feel heavy but dont feel solid. Some others are solid but felt hollow.

Spring, more or less will b going for the 116d. Just screening the pml website to see what interior accessories can add. Like the dvd system display at rear seats and TV function. Just not sure if they able to add that locally to the stock car.

From badge perspective, YES.

Other than that, no. Can you take that ur relative ask u why BMW got no sat nav?

I have been moving from Sunny to BMW 520 to B.M.W to MRS to Mini Cooper S.

All my current & previous cars are pre-owned.

I will not buy anything at the bottom of the range.

Don't waste time looking. Unlikely can retrofit.

Nav wise still quite ok. Past 2 cars for 10yrs also without...

Have no prejudice towards pre-own but for electronics and cars, i kind of still prefer to go for brand new. Unless one day I want to go for the bigger size boys...

'Buying bottom of the range'

That's another way to illustrate my 'big fish in small pond vs small fish in big pond' analogy.

Likewise, for me, I rather buy the most expensive LV bag rather than the most basic/entry level Hermes bag.

I guess either way is fine as long as it float your boat. The key thing is you must know what you are buying (mind) and why are you buying it (heart). I always say, your money, your call, you live by the sword, die by the sword.

Sounded so like heroic movie... ;)

Initially wanted to get the toyota prius, after looking and reviewing 116d given features and brand. Preference is towards the 116d.

Prius will also cost me ard 132k. With this amount, i would rather get the 116d.

Mini was 6 mths old & 2.7k km when i bought it.

Mine you, PML is not very good with aftersales if you intend to rely on PML for aftersales.

There are loads of workshop which are specialises on BMW.

If i am in the mkt for F20, i would not look at anything less than 120.

That's because BMW is always the ultimate driving machine and i will buy it for sheer driving pleasure. Nvr because of the badge.

test drove the 116d and the series 2 touran today.

- 116d felt normal under the comfort and ECO mode but the sports mode does make a huge difference. response was good. The car is a little low, thus making it more stable than the touran.

- the touran, on the other hand felt a little tall a like wobble when making normal cornering, probably CG is higher. Though torque is higher than the 116, also felt weak unless under the sports mode.

the 116d's 8 speed transmission gear box looks very electronic with press the "P" at any gear will put the car under Park. Hand Brake is still the traditional "Hand Brake" Though a little "old fashion" but seems still "safer" than the series 2 touran's "Electronic Parking" button.

My wife like the series 2 for it is taller and larger leg space for the rear seat. But I preferred the 116d as it has a better driving experience and newer look. But my wife felt the 116d a little too small for me, say may make me felt like "Mr Bean".. But I felt the series 2 is like a Oversized Honda Jazz....

Final decision, I went with the 116d. But my wife still felt she preferred the series 2 touran.... ;) :(

I have the same experience as you. My wife preferred the 2 series Active Touran, but the drive experience is not that good. I test drove both car around HDB estate in Mei Ling street. The 2 series felt wobbly when clearing the hump, but for 1 series it clear with it very firmly. :)

Sunny, Thanks. Cannot lah.. She may later think I bring another woman to go buy car... ;) She has her view as sometimes I need to fetch her mum between 2 houses, the 116d is a little low for her to climb in / out....

Eyke, you are so right.. the years can be shorten if change car earlier... ;) But I don't think I will in the next 2~3 years unless I can afford a X3 or X5..... ;).

Else I guess I will just extend the COE for the estima I have,, the COE was only 19k then.... ;)
