Wishcumstrue 6th Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 (edited) Iniital batches will be almostly hand-assembled. Once the assembly line is refined, robotic automation moves in. Delivery 2014(Japan), 2015(NA) Love the way each worker double checks their work and finishing with a self-assuring gesture with a sign off. The digital torque wrench is the preferred tool in the video. Edit: The name "Mirai" means Future in Japanese Kanji or in Chinese "未来" Assembly floor in raw sound and HD. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear October 15, 2015 Author Share October 15, 2015 (edited) I hope to be able to own this car in my life time. Well, if we take away all the tax, rules and regulations that LTA put up to stop us from owning a green vehicle, getting a Mirai is possible within the next 5 years or so given the fact Toyota plan to ram up production rate by 2018. In addition, H2 station infra is quite doable in Singapore given the fact a single top-up takes only 5 min and can last around 500km range. In short, its performance is like our current average sedan. Edited October 15, 2015 by Wishcumstrue
Ingenius Turbocharged October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 (edited) To think that we don't need to pump petrol anymore, is heavenly. But of cos have to pay for the hydrogen and the infrastructure. But I think 5 years is rather optimistic. Even fully electric car also not commercialise yet. The pessimist in me says 20 years. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear October 15, 2015 Author Share October 15, 2015 Fancy Toyota's own "Newater" ? Yes, it is really self-made pure H2O from its fuelcell engine. No PUB's reverse osmosis needed. A French reporter tried the water "exhaust" and gave his verdict. Last time, I checked, he is still alive and healthy..
Allen 2nd Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 Honda has been running FCX Clarity, a hydrogen fuel cell car in California since 2008. and the infrastructure for pumping hydrogen has never expanded out of California yet. so in spore it will more difficult, remember the mad rush to install the gas tank in the car with the promise that the govt will support it with building more gas filling station, where did that go? down the drain i guess. FCX is more of a concept field experiment and production was very low since 2009. For CNG, cannot compare since it is an after-market setup and hardly consider as a zero-emission nor a EV system. Also considering how the authority made life with CNG almost economically unsustainable, the policies and market basically killed of this alternative. http://www.eco-business.com/news/cng-cars-singapore-moment-sun-over/

Hotnyh 3rd Gear October 26, 2015 Share October 26, 2015 (edited) Unfortunately we do not have the infrastructure for hydrogen fuel cell car refueling. We don't have it either for EVs like the Leaf or i3- only landed properties could run an EV. The Mirai looks terrible to me... the new Prius gets some styling cues from it but at least doesn't look so bad. Honda's older Clarity FCX fuel cell car looks less weird though not really a beauty either. Edited October 26, 2015 by Hotnyh
Wishcumstrue 6th Gear November 5, 2015 Author Share November 5, 2015 Toyota has confirmed will be working on Lexus version of fuel-cell hybrid based on Mirai. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear November 5, 2015 Author Share November 5, 2015 is it hydrogen storage in like pumping stations that maybe a safety hazard? Can't remember... Hope this clip help. Note this guy is from Shell - which is investing in hydrogen-based infrastructure and refueling system. It seems the liquid H2 is cooled for -20C for optium refuelling. Accordng to Toyota, Mirai will cover over 550km after a 5 min empty to full tank topup. ↡ Advertisement
