Based on past servicing I notice I pay 3% of car value for servicing each year

 

A good example is vios at 3% means $3k servicing a year

 

May I know for higher level cars like conti is it 5-10% of car value

 

Eg Audi is 200k so servicing is $10k a year?

My Audi A4, 3k for 4 services upto 60k mileage. Your estimation might be too much.

Even i owned Altis before, annual servicing cost is about 1k +.

My audi a3 needs service every 15k or 12 months. For non major service should be about $300-400. Far from your horrifying figure.

If we are just saying normal oil servicing shouldnt be more than 1%.

 

If includes brake pads, rotors and other occasional incidentals, then would be a bit more.

Even so , i estimate not more than 2% of car value per year.

I play a lot of car games and when it's damaged its around 3-5% of car value. Have to wait 2-3hr for virtual car servicing though

Wahlao, dun talk about car games la. If u speed at 200 kmh and ram into tree once a day, 100% also not enough. But then license revoked liao anyway, might as well scrap car

There are different types of car ownership.  Pick yours:

 

a. With the car, you buy roadside service. Because your car is expected to break down. But you hold your head high that your brand (Audi, Mercedes, whatever) has a fleet of cars going around to help you.

 

b. With the car, you buy after sales service. You want to stand out from the crowd, where they come and pick up your car quarterly for servicing. The poorer ones will have to drive their cars to the workshop, where there is a lounge with free wifi and coffee, or they have a shuttle bus to the nearest MRT station.

 

c. You buy a Japanese car that is made in Japan, where about the only maintenance required is: buy gas once a fortnight.

 

Remember, there is no free lunch.

 

I opted for c. My past two cars were Toyota (Harrier 3.0, Rav 4L), made in Japan, bought from "parallel" importers. I recycled the warranty cards after I received the cars. I changed oil once in a while, like a year or so. Most of the time I changed myself, but when I am lazy there are workshops that do it for $10 to $20 (bring your own oil & filter).  Both my cars did not have a single breakdown till their 10 years were up. The only non-owner maintenance was the change of brake pads in my Rav 4 at year 7.

 

However you want to say it, there is a difference in products meant for the Japanese customer.

 

That's my first-hand experience.  YMMV.
