Kb27 Supersonic April 15, 2016 Share April 15, 2016 does it really helps? I tried doing wheel arch, nothing impressive. only dead weight, somemore its 2 layer.. I ever tried undercarriage painting, prevent rust and kinda sound proofing. this did ease the noisiness.. nothing too special. Many yeas ago, I diy on my car, wheel arch, floor and doors. I did a very thorough job, spending many weekends on it. Imo, there is only so much you can do. Sound insulation, sheet panel dampening, they do cut down vibration noise and radiant noise to a certain degree. However, just get one bad tyre making noise and all your insulation will appear not to work anymore. You may have to put 20 layers of sound insulation on the wheel arch just to tone it down a bit. There is a limit, up to where more insulation has a negative returns. So, you need to modify your expectations. The best way of cuz is to get rid of the noise generator, in this case, the tyre. ↡ Advertisement
Kb27 Supersonic April 15, 2016 Share April 15, 2016 There are generally 2 ways to reduce noise in a car. 1. Dampening - sheet metal flex and vibrate making noise, you put dampening material to reduce the flex and vibration 2. Absorption - sound absorbing material such as foam is used to absorb noise For those who wants to diy a bit and not too costly on the wheel arch: 1. Get a 3m undercoating or rubberised spray. You can find some similar spray in hardware shops. This is the dampening part. 2. For sound absorption part, you may stick some hard foam on the wheel arch. Bear in mind, it may drop off, if you don't stick it securely.
Watwheels Supersonic April 15, 2016 Share April 15, 2016 This might very well be a thing of the past since now that high end cars have active noise cancelling in their audio system. I think very soon aftermarket audio head units will come up with similar technology. No more adding unnecessary sound deadening mats which are so heavy.
