Just watched Rogue One. Not bad. Donnie Yen was good. The droid was very funny. Come next year Star Wars gonna be 40 years old. Believe many lao uncles here are around this age.

The original actor who played Grand Moff Tarkin passed away in 1994. I'm impressed by the CGI of him in Rogue One, but not so for princess leia - like some sex doll.

I can't get used to the fact that the rebels commander sends a blind "monk warrior" as part of a team to get the death star blueprints.

 

What if the blind monk is the last man standing and the imperial army swap the blueprints for porn and let him escape with it? The blind fool wouldn't know what's in it until he gets home...What's next? Rogue Two?

The rebel commanders did not send the team.. 

it's more like Jyn erso formed the a band or rogue warriors and went without the official sanction of the rebels commanders .

If you are an average movie goer with not much knowledge, just treat this like a normal sci-fi movie. It's not very epic and nothing much to shout about, but you will be entertained mostly throughout the movie. Some parts are abit dry and sleep inducing but the ending to keep you to the edge of your seats. It's recommended to watch with a SW fan to clear some of the doubts.

 

If you are familiar with the franchise and recently watched all the movies with a fresh imprint of the scenes, you will feel more related to the movie can relate to sound of the scenes. No dry scenes for you as all the scenes matters. Some age old plot holes are covered and some age old questions answered. Abit of cameo here and there and some fan service. You will somewhat feel this is better that "Force Awakens" and yet not really better.

 

Overall, an enjoyable movie worth the threater seats.

WARNING: Spoiler alert, do not proceed unless you want to be spoilt for the movie's plots and twists....

 

 

 

Seriously, this is gotta be the darkest SW movie of all and has a big death count since everyone dies.

But the problem is the feels for the characters. Perhaps its difficult to cramp all so many casts and built up their characters but at least get the main casts right.

 

Among all the characters, I think I felt most for K2's death which is ironic. He is a droid yet he seemed most human among the gang. His development was one of the better ones. Donnie Yen was wise cracking and I believed he improvise abit to bring out the character. Even so his death doesn't really sink into me too deeply. The rest of the characters are quite forgetable and I was dissapointted by Felicity's character lacking so much development considering the potential given her tragic background story. I could not feel for her, just like I couldn't feel for the characters in Godzilla, by the same director.

 

The ending where she perished with the captain was underwhelming and the mood moved away too fast to provide fan service to the fans. Perhaps it's also the underwhelming music that failed to touch our hearts unlike what Hans Zimmer did when Batman "sacrificed" himself at the ending of "The Dark Knight rises" Perhaps it's they way of reminding us it's still a SW movie and not an emo war movie "so let's move along!" to the brighter side of the franchise. But this transition has a serious pacing issue in the movie which I actually cringed.

 

In the end, consider the mood and tone of the movie, no tears were shed.

 

Other than those nitpick, I believe the movie is still entertaining. Darth Vader's appearance was epic and his action scene is like a wakeup call that, after 30 years of being a pop culture victim with parodies, spoofs and whatnot what cost him his respect. It is a grim reminder that Darth Vader is a powerful and ruthless Sith Lord feared by the rebellion.

 

OVerall enjoyable. Best SW movie, almost, but still not the best. Worst? Not a chance.

Just watched Rogue satu with an open mind so not too disappointed. Not good but not too bad either. Quite a few patrons walked out in the middle of the movie though.

The cast was weak...and K-2 stole the limelight.

 

So, it's not the sequel to the previous one. Can I say, that previous one was episode 7 and this latest edition as episode 3.5 that smack in between the old 1 (now as 4) and the new 3?

 

Forgot to add...Vader sounded so different, got a sorethroat maybe.

Had always thought it'd be the continuation of episode 7 till yesterday.

That's about right, don't go in with expectations and you will be entertained. The 'problem' for me was I heard on Class 95 this episode was how good how good, then watched it and was a little disappointed I must say, although it is due to the heightened expectation I think.

 

I too felt Vader's voice is not close enough to the original, but I am sure they tried their best to match. And I think his neck is a bit too thick.

 

In addition to the imperial TIE fighters and the normal TIE fighters, they introduced another kind, the TIE striker which looks very cool, certainly better than anything in Episodes 1 to 3.
