Seeking advice from those that have done this before ....

1. I'm planning to bid for my own car license plate number.

2. AD usually include 6 mths road tax, license plate etc in car price

Questions :

a. If I bid for my own plate number, what kind of rebates can I expect from AD?

b. Do I need to inform SE before he bids COE on my behalf or only when car is ready for registration?

Appreciate all advice.

Thanks !

a. Zero rebate as they gain nothing from your bidding.

b. You have to inform your SE before, otherwise, if car is registered with random number, you need to pay 100$ for changing + 60$ for your new plates.

A. You bid for your own plate number is your own liao cos $140 registration fee is born by the AD and it applies with or without bidded number plate. So definitely there is no rebate.

B. Inform SE you intend to bid number before registration.

Hope this helps

Thanks Steptronic and tyco_kia !!!

2 other questions....

1. if I intend to bid for a number before I even confirm a car, is this ok?I read from LTA page that once the bidding is successful, I have up to 12 months to register my car. As my COE is due Q3 this year and I definitely intent to get a new car, I thought of bidding for the SLA series as I don't quite like SLB.

2. So I will need to inform SE when I purchase car that I already have a number plate. Correct?

1. 12 months no issues. You can even extend by one more year by paying 1200$ after first year

2. That is correct. You get it written when you sign on the dotted line. Even if you miss this chance no issues except that you need to pay 100 for re-registration and 60$ for new set of plates.

All the best.

Thanks Steptronic and tyco_kia !!!

Just take note that when you bid for the number plate, you should also be the registered owner of the new car.
