Is my car a lemon?

Hi,

My 2006 Honda Edix mileage very low, about 112K only. When the car was 6 or 7 years old, I had to change the whole suspension because there was an issue with the bushing. Now, the mechanic says my gearbox has some hairline cracks.

Am I just unlucky to get such problems with a japanese car or are these normal? Should I consider extending COE by 5 years with the cracks on my gearbox?

Hairline crack? On the housing? Did you seek 2nd opinion?

If the auto transmission crack is confirmed by another 'non-auto transmission' workshop, then you should not renew your COE. You should check your ATF regularly and top-up if necessary until you scrap your car.

I think it took you a while to have the suspension replaced. The abnormal vibrations and shocks made its way to the gearbox somehow causing the casing to have hairline cracks. Who knows what other parts are affected as well? Hairline crack will grow to become bigger cracks even with the suspension replaced. There are bound to be vibrations while the car is on the move. Vibrations will make the cracks grow if you do not know what I'm saying. Why you call it lemon I do not comprehend. Ppl always like to blame the car somehow and not blame themselves.

Gearbox crack could be because workshop jack up the car by placing the portable jack on the gearbox.

Else there is no other reason for it to crack.

It's old, not a lemon.

if you renewing the car, better get it checked by a transmission specialist.

drove a Edix and sold it 2 years plus ago. the gearbox is quite hardy unless mishandled.. if car is good worth to renew COE. spacious and comfy.

Not lemon, just part and parcel of car ownership.

Just drive for a few more months and scrap it. Workshop mechanics are known to exaggerate a lot.
