Then we are doomed.  You have:

- trucks/good vehicles cutting into middle and right lanes to overtake other trucks/goods vehicles

- drivers who road hog

- kayu drivers who brake for no reason or when the expressway curves even slightly

- motorbikes weaving in and out and causing cars to brake

- cars that squeeze in to change lanes whether there is enough space or not, forcing other to brake

- kaypo drivers looking at accidents on the other side of the road

- and as someone mentioned, people who jam brake to put in cash card

No wonder our roads are always jammed.

to help alleviate this phantom jam, try to keep a distance from the car infront so to prevent totally stopping. There are research done that this method helps.

Keeping a safe distance will reduce this kind of jams. Even if there is a hogger infront, the person behind shouldn't be that stupid to tailgate. A hogger won't give way even if you tailgate.

This is well known - unnecessary change of speed causes jams - well it should be anyway.

Advanced / aware  drivers in heavy flowing traffic try to avoid adding their own brake lights to a brake light cascade ahead of them by using engine braking only unless they absolutely must step on the brakes (smoothly and all in good time before somebody jumps on this statement and deliberately misconstrues it).

There will normally be a jam at the upward section of an underpass, because most drivers invariably fail to maintain their speed up the hill (even cruise control will get caught out for a moment)... there is not much we can do about it.

Actually I don't think it's that well known... and also it's unavoidable. Cars are unable to all travel at the same speed without slowing down. That is one of the advantages they are pushing for driverless cars that can communicate with each other and adjust their speeds to smooth out jams automatically.
