The sonata taxis have started to retire. Why only investigate now?

Because only now then all these incidents start to be reported. Then videos go viral so I guess LTA noticed. Previously, they just say is the taxi driver reckless and fire them.

Seems like only Sonata. All the videos on youtube only show Sonatas affected. New and old.

LTA is not finding anything about this issue....simply because they do not have the resources or engineering know-how to even start....

Just look at the Tesla CEV issue and you will get the drift...

Yep. Same goes for SMRT, Still so many breakdowns after so many investigations & rectifications.

Seems like only Sonata. All the videos on youtube only show Sonatas affected. New and old.

Could Sonata be singing their swan song?

Sudden unintended acceleration: LTA finds no mechanical fault

.....

The Straits Times understands that up to a dozen suspicious taxi crashes were investigated, but most drivers eventually admitted that they had stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.

.....

An LTA spokesman said it has been "working closely with the Traffic Police, ComfortDelGro and Komoco Motors, the authorised dealer for Hyundai vehicles in Singapore, to look into the recent cases of alleged sudden unintended acceleration involving Hyundai Sonata diesel taxis".

Based on the investigations so far, "there has been no evidence of a technical fault that causes the vehicles to accelerate unintentionally".

So convenient to put the blame on the car or the manufacturer...

Now that the truth is out...how does LTA deal with such drivers who caused an accident and lied?

What can LTA do? The most terminate the driver?!

I think they were already terminated. This was an extra investigation as there were reports of sudden unintended acceleration in Hyundais. So basically, confirming that it was driver error and initial actions were justified

A lot of time.. Some Drivers have the habit of putting the gear in D and just pull handbrake... Or sometimes put N and step out instead of P

I believe most taxi drivers have quite bad driving habit lo, so you give them any car also same.

Taxi drivers are old and tired.

They step on the wrong pedal by mistake.

It's better to give them less powerful car, detune or remove the turbo.

So their mistakes is less costly.

A less powerful car won't solve the problem.

Even a 1l engine will propel a 1 ton car forward with enough momentum to kill.

And do you want to sit in a tiny Suzuki / Cherry QQ?

Taxi company had added turbo to comply with Euro IV.  Now, you want them to remove it??

Might as well change to automonous driving.

Motorbike 200cc also can kill. It is not the turbo, it is the driver.

Less powerful car also can kill. Think should give them manual car instead of auto car, then lesser chance to step on the wrong pedal.
