Theoldjaffa Hypersonic May 12, 2017 Share May 12, 2017 I am very confused and hesitate to get a 159, can anyone help Me? Currently driving an old version Toyota Altis( 2008, got it at second hand dealer) , quite reliable but not fun at all. I don't understand why 159 looks so sexy but the maintenance is so expensive, and makes me loving but scaring it at the same time. I have been loving 159 for a very very Long time (since 2012), but when I really want to get one, my Friend told me don't go for it as this car is not very reliable and very thirsty. As a result, I end up of getting my Altis which so called reliable but no fun at all. So I work, and I drive Everyday, I pump the oil and renewing road tax for her, but in my heart, I wish I am doing this for a 159 but not her. Once I got the Altis, I start to regret and asking myself why I wasn't go for alfa when I was able to afford it. Now, if I sell my Altis and convert it into Alfa, I am going to loss some money (insurance, road tax, dealer cut down etc.ï¼and also put myself into some kind of "uncertainty". The uncertainty means I don't know which day is the day that I have to spend a lot of money just to change the 159's "wear and tears" , probably, it is going to be $4000+? perhaps even higher than that when the clutch need to change? I have tried an Alfa 159 at dealer recently, and it is a 2012 car, white Color, exhaust pipe have been modified to make that "hump engine noise", besides that, dealer said there are no other modifications. I have tried the car, overall feels powerful but just the sound abit noisy, but I kinda like it as it feels sporty. This 159 left for 4year and 7 month, they are asking for 69000 sgd, and would like to trade in my Altis at 18000 ( 1 year left). I am quite confused, although I can afford the money to own a 159, but I am afraid I can't afford the maintainence fee some day. It feels like playing a 4D lottery, I can't predict which day the car will break down and I have to pop up a few thousand dollars to continue its life. But I do love the car's outlook, probably the most beautiful piece in my heart. I have never so obssessed a car's outlook like a white 159 do. This is just a dream car in my mind, at least for the outlook. I wish I am rich enough and no need to worry about the wear and tears in the future and just enjoy to own an Alfa. But I am not, I can afford a car that spend a few thousand dollars to change the major parts "once a few year", but not "always". My confusion also because I am not a car expert who knows everything about the car, so when I see the engine and try the car, I roughly know if this car is worth to buy or not , or else, it will give me a lot of trouble. To make a short summary: 1)Alfa lovers, can anyone give me some suggestions on this based on my situation? 2)I also wondering if I can join a what's app group of you guys to know more about Alfa, so maybe someone is willing to accompany me to view the 159 again before I really decide to go for that car. Thanks for viewing my post. Cheers guys! Andy My advice is don't. Wait till you can afford it financially, as in be able to fork out the money as and when repairs need to be done. ↡ Advertisement

Andy Another alternative (in case you did not know) is to wait for the 159's successor the Giulia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Giulia_(952), coming to Singapore around Sep to Oct this year. I checked with EA during their Run Free event and the base model would start at 180k at the current COE level.
andy7 Neutral Newbie May 12, 2017 Share May 12, 2017 buy and don't regret. if you are afraid, minimise your exposure by getting a shorter COE lifespan car, probably 1-2 years left. I have probably lost count of how many times people praised or turned their heads to take a second look of my car. big fuel tank - 80L (there is a reason for it to be this big) ultimately, before you commit, send the car to an Alfa specialist to check on what are the wear & tear that needs to be done up upon taking over, and negotiate with the seller for a better price. you may use Alfa Sportivo / Alfa City, most alfa owners send their cars to them for servicing so you may also be able to find the car's history with them. I believe the S$4k++ repair costs is referring to the entire selespeed kit. Apart from that, usual maintenance is quite similar to any other conti, VW / Audi / BMW / Mercs (ok Mercs parts are quite cheap actually...) Hi, hanks for your reply. 1) May I know how can I bargain with the dealer just to convenience them send the car to have an inpection at ALfa city? I foreseen that they will have to ask me for a deposit (they have mentioned before, the deposite is 3000) before sending Goa a check. 2)Therefore, I believe that, at the point that I submit the deposite, no matter the report results, they will not willing to change Ang spare parts for me. 3) May I know how this would normally done with dealer based on you guys experience? "If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain" At the start, you should make your intentions clear to the seller (dealer) that, if there are major repairs to be done up, it should be factored in and reduced from the sale price accordingly. Ask them if they are willing to cut a deal for that. If they say no, then can ask them go Marina Barrage fly kite ~ If they are willing to do that, and you are dead serious in getting it, then proceed with sending it to the mechanic / having the mechanic come down to the dealer's showroom. Lastly, can always ask dealer what is the carplate number, call AC / AS to check... ask if this car has been serviced here before, when was the last servicing, any red flags? cos you are keen in taking over and buying?? I am sure they won't push you away lahx.... (at least that is what I did when I bought my serpent~)

Clutch another 2k every 80k or so? Tyres about every 30k. Fluids 40k. Pads and petrol depends on usage. Or else, should I pay any deposite before I ask dealer to send the car to Alfa city for a check? 2) May I know how much is that going to cost for a conprehensive inspection of this car (sending it to Alfa city work shop or invite some one come down)? Why nobody told me last time?!?! oh man... nobody told me that too Maintaining an Alfa doesn't cost an arm or a leg. I think the question is whether can you stand the frequency of the downtime or not. Normal servicing is just engine oil and oil filter change. When the car hits certain mileage, there are some things that should be change out as a preventive measure. Some parts are cheap, some parts are expensive. Its not like you gotta spend thousands of dollars on every time

For my Altis ( I know is quite a louzy car and shouldn't be compared with Alfa ), it only cost $100+ for changing the engine oil and filter only. I did annually check at STA before renewing road tax but so far they said everything is ok, so I also don't know which part I should change at the moment. So I wonder, under what kind of circumstances you guys are changing wear and tears on Alfa, is it because it is already broken or the car have problems already? Or, you guys just send for annual check , and then the workshop just tell you these, these and these, you must change already. What is the frequency you guys send Alfa to the workshop to do mataininace actually? Is it a regular check? Or just When car having problems?
