Serves the purpose.

Hot hatch is meant to be driven hard.

What do I need to be wary of or to look out if buying a used Golf?

Don't. Bought mine last year, after a few months, had to overhaul the engine (costed $5K upwards). One by one parts start to give way. In the end sold it after only using it for 8 months. Super sad. Maybe I'm just unlucky. But its a nice car to drive.  ^_^

mini cooper jcw hatch. a hot hatch that won't cost too much for you to enjoy the fun.

just test drove both jcw hatch and clubman jcw all4 on last sat. much fun to drive compare to my clubman s.

I will pick the jcw hatch if they can match my offer price.

prefer GTI but if there are too much issues, can settle for TSI

Seem like TSI has more issues than GTI comparatively. TSI is dry clutch (never believe  their sales talk that dry clutch issues resolved) and GTI is wet clutch with better reliability.

Only problem with GTI in second hand market is almost all are nodded in one way or another... Hard to find a pristine u mod unit when I was doing my shopping.

End up with a F55 mini cooper s 5door. Not any less fun than the 3doors.

used car with good reliability - jap + NA.

previous gen honda K20? or BRZ/86.

But if I were in the market now for a new hot hatch/sedan, gotta be the skoda RS 245 @126k.

highest BHP/dollar, full options including alcantara, e-LSD, new 7speed wet clutch

And it's only 126,900. Power to price ratio cannot fight.

Still in the market looking for a good offer. Monitoring the Civic for now. But if you're set on getting a Golf I suggest you purchase a brand new one and take care of it well.

Reading the title again, i think can remove many options offered, including the Golf 1.4. Hot hatch it ain't.
