Don't make this into a HWZ EDMW thread la..

Seriously need real advice ..

Get the 1st vehicle you mentioned on your shortlisted cars.

There is a reason you place it as the 1st car.

So after nine years and a bit, my Little Red Riding Hood, aka Honda Civic FD, is coming to the end of its life. Well the end of it's COE anyway, which means I can either cough up the money to renew this little piece of paper or explore new cars.

If you target to spent $130K, go and buy Mazda Biante at $128,888.

2L cc car with nice headroom, sitting space, can either seat 7 or 8 persons by shifting the centre row seats.....  [thumbsup]

You have similar considerations as me, am surprised that this car is not in your radar.

May I humbly recommend you to take a look at the Infiniti Q30. Suits pretty much most of your requirements. Budget, need to stretch just a little bit. Sits higher than the sedans. Made in England, with Japanese, German, and French blood. Versatile seats, good fuel economy for the 1.5 turbodiesel (ard 20km/l, can't remember exact), Looks amazing, inside (Alcantara-lined seats and dashboard etc) and outside. Based on the A-class/GLA. Can't comment on the reliability though. Cheers.

Sorry q30 fails. Premium pricing and BOSE Hifi, but no electric seats.

Also Renault 1.5 diesel. A no no.

Rear is super cramped. Only 3 10year olds back there. Or adults less than 160cm and weight less than 50kg.

Well I have sort of narrowed it down, to the HRV for value and reliability, and the B Class for the extra safety, power and yes, it's nice to own a Merc, even once in my life!

Not shy to admit that was indeed a push factor..

Reliability is something I don't have as much insight..

I have driven a Lancer, Corolla, Astra, Hyundai Excel and now the Civic FD.

The FD is the best, followed by the Astra for long road drives.

The Corolla (2003) was the FC king..

Well thankfully I don't need seven seats ... yet :)

personally, for reliability, id not try any cars that comes w dsg, dct. replacment of clutch pack n tcu or mu seemed an inevitable affair some km down the road. i suspect replacement may b required every 40-90k km based on some relevant forum read up n 2 of fren ownership.

all these 220 k budget, 130k budget, really.....all shd just stick to 1 thread

shd be

'limpeh have $$, what car to buy?'

and end result always the same:

1. Get financial advise from planning for goldfish to death to what not

2. Full cash specialist @throttle2 come in. ( no offence bro, but it is a good thing, I feel)

3. Uber/grabcar/teksi solicitors come in

4. howmany % go to car, smoke, pangsai etc

for crying out loud...do your own financial planning lah...if u need to ask, you cannot afford it!

PERIOD!

Well said

Thank you for your opinion sir.

I have been driving for 26 years, so I know where you are coming from.

My cars were a lot cheaper, but yeah, I enjoy a good ride and still have some fun.

To: therock

Like you, RELIABILTY has been my TOP criterion for cars that I can live with for its life time.

Thus I am on the same page as Watwheels.

- No turbo. Stick to NA
- No CVT, nor dual clutch. Stick to visco-coupled automatics.
- No German-brand, but made elsewhere
- No Japanese-brand, but made elsewhere

The current 4 cars in my stable - 3 German-made, 1 Korean-made ... all NA-engined, automatics and one manual.
From my >35 years of car ownership of different makes, I would like to believe that my selection criteria for reliability has been fully distilled over 3+ decades!

All from brand new:
Worst (most unreliable): BMW, VW and Alfa Romeo.
Best (most reliable): Merc, Lexus and Honda

Note: My Mercs are German-made, the larger-engined one, now on its 7th year with zero problems ... just normal AD w/s servicing only.
The Lexus (of course) and Honda were made in Japan.

You forgot, what is your mother's choice ?

Mum has spoken - she finds it easier to get out of the Merc, so there it is..

YOLO - signed for the B180.

Thank you everyone for sharing..

I should say that the HRV was pretty good! And it comes with Airplay - which will cost $3800 on the Merc from Elebest.

But mum knows best and there's the nice feel of the car, plus the safety factor.

Sales rep sweetened the deal a bit more to help me along and I did the deed.

Now, can anyone share the updated checklist for cars? Cheers

Thanks for the heads up bro. I have been reading up on this car, which has been around since 2011, in the A, B and GLC, GLA cars. So far it's been ok. Fingers crossed!
