More worried on how this was within the building code standard to begin with and is this the tip of the iceberg for a full audit of all the building infrastructure as well as the developer who was involved in this having ALL the building audited as well as the Civil Engineer endorsement need to be re-accessed.

the way this design looked more alike the cornices in most of the homes which may come under intense heat to break up the bonding...

Doesn't seem like a good sign.

LKY said, "As long as I'm the one running the govt, nobody is going to knock it down".

Seem like something is falling off....

Balcony SHOULD be ok as they r load bearing structure like floor indoor that must be reinforced with steel bars.

yes. but i also heard "scary" stories that now with so many developments chop chop to build - they are barely meeting requirement. even steel bar is lesser and not the super tok kong bar like the 80/90s ... how long they can hold - yet to be proven especially now with climate change in terms of super heavy rain and super hot

a lot of shit happening nowaday with new development like Jem shit happen multiple times, flooding, simi collapse, crack on train, etc is a testament of "poor engineering" surfacing now ... everything must be cheap and meet requirement (1.2m corridor also meet requirement)

the only 'positive ' news about this incident is that the fallen off sun shade was 'tahan ' by the sun shade below and did not drop down and no one was hurt.

many of out building have such sun shade feature, are they all the same type of design ? looks like just ' stick / paste ' onto the exterior of the building.

New additions are using metal/steel bars with blades.

Based on HDB info ,this block is build 30 days ago..

not sure if the sunshade is a recent additional or part of the original building..

Old people in my mother's era is saying, house nowadays is like lego block, no longer as sturdy as those pour cement in and slowly build up.

You all think this is bad? ??? Think again! !!

Read ST Pg A5.

Quote:" BCA had directed the building owner -tampines town council-to engage a PE.." unquote.

WTF.. huh?? Isn't the BCA and/or HDB a naturally fitting professional parties to handle such events? ?

A TC designed for changes every few years should not be the lead agency. It's not a architectural entity, it's a social and political beast. Leave the professional things to the professionals.

In the same article, it mentioned that GRC MP Ms Chen was alerted and told grass roots leaders to get police and contact relevant agencies.

AGAIN!!! Is this how you do disaster management? Maybe this is just to get photo op or news credit mention.

Maybe if a terrorist bomb explodes or a foreign plane bombs a block. .. the TC MP will then ask PA or CCC to call CISCO and neighbourhood police (during working hours) to go handle??

The proper way is for TC to contact relevant govt agencies and let them lead. TC should just be background support and stay out of the way.

The TC is overreaching.

Look closely at the photo, the sun shade below had a big crack and is probably unsound already. Waiting to drop down.
