We should learn from Thailand then... Adopt the willow tree strategy. Just bend according to the wind direction.

PS. We are also disappointed with Shitty Times reporting.

Not likely. I understand a lot of people has prejudice against China, but if Singapore needs to choose an Ally perhaps China is a better choice. They might be arrogant and straight talking but at least their stand has always been the same. US on the other hand depends very much on who is governing the country at that moment.

Just like in business: will you rather prefer a customer who gives strict requirements but rewards when you can accomplish it? Or a customer who sweet talks but the requirements always changing when they have a change in management and therefore cannot pay you because you did not meet current requirements although you did meet previous ones?

While I do agree with your thoughts, China hasn't been the best of friends with Singapore either. @somewhat1975 commented on Suzhou Industrial Park..

Anyway, if Trump wins, and screws up the world, who we be friends with might not be our choice anyway. Haha

I'm really hoping he doesn't win...

Don't understand this part.

Copy and paste onto Google translation and you may get this - let's mate, dude.

Aiyo...that editor in chief might have gotten a cut down or a loss in translation process version before he wrote his article...or simply politically warped to stir shit or boost readership. Too many possibilities.

Our 罗兄 and that 老人chair clearly stated their stands in the attached statements...

龙哥 is in Japan....right? His last "personal" visit to ROC also caused upsets in the middle Kingdom...

Just another storm in the tea cup. Have a sip and move on...we just yumsheng with them recently to celebrate 50 yrs of ties.

So, all is good...for now.

Singapore tried to be a friend for both US and China. If China is not happy about that and try to force Singapore to take side, the decision is no brainer and it won't be China.

I'll choose China pretty XMM, shave their armpit hair and bang them, be friendly with them and then go to US and brother brother with them and get their protection.

Joke aside, I'll not choose to side China if given a choice. Don't feel great to be associated with AMDK, but I do feel lose face if associated with PRC, mainly due to their mannerism etc.

This Global Times editor-in-chief is also quite a character. He is known for his aggressive editorial tone and likened as China's "Trump" by some.

Lets see how this ding-dong will evolve while enjoying a cup of tea

in recent invitation for a state dinner in us, pingy was just being used as a reminder to their fellow congressmen that popular vote is just vote, and not actions into mending the tpp which was so difficult to be signed-off for the obvious reasons...

and pingy's visit to abe obviously pissed off the ah tiongs, not realizing how vulnerable we are now in the economic downturn.....

what pisses us most is no reply from ah tiong's foreign affairs boss instead saying that the 2 countries should understand and respect each other's core interests.

then why their paper can publish what the country's opposition as the source of this report leh !

obviously, pingy will not be ball enuff to sue the paper as he normally does.

looks like it's gonna be a suckthumb for pingy for the time being . . . .

at least until nov . . . . .

sama sama; pingy also angkat with 2:30 in recent asean meet, not forgetting 2:30 did not show any regret or against the burning of our flag during his campaign.....

we oso kana no-face when thai police refused to handover that canadian robber mahhhh.

actually, we were even bullied left-right-up-down bso many times by the indons; the last was that finance chao charbo; she even flagged tharmu's name as not to interfere with her tax policy into our homeland !!!

its only we agree to pay 100% for the hsr train to iskandar, plus being guarrantor to ahjib's loan from ah tiong that simmer down the heat bet. the 2 countries only mahhh (recent noices on the water, vep, 1mdb etc.)

so far, our best pal is still with the royals . . . . brunei & johor

beri beri difficult neighbours nowadays, sigh . . . . .

Every country garment has their own propaganda dept and Singapore is no exception.

Problem with propaganda, is like spreading falsehood or misinformation, informed people will see through the ruse over time when action does not match the words.

For e.g, our PM Lee once made a speech during his 2012 visit to the PRC at CCP's Central Party School in Beijing.

https://www.mfa.gov.sg/content/mfa/media_centre/singapore_headlines/2012/201209/news_20120907.html

In that speech, he made 2 key points:

Singapore is "is neutral and takes no sides in this (South China Sea) dispute

Singapore wants the disputes be managed "responsibly and peacefully"

So I am not surprised our gov will get hypersensitive when a China media accused it of trying to put SCS dispute into the NAM agenda..which it failed.

So there is a little history behind the latest rebuttal and counter rebuttal between the official and media positions from both sides.

Drinking Yakult and be merry is the easy part. The challenge is to avoid drinking expired Yakult and having to suffer for not keeping up with the event.

I also notice the Singapore ambassador choose to reply to the Global Time editor while avoid making any direct comment to PRC's MOFA spokes person statement which essentially takes the same line hinting some countries was trying to create an issue during recent NAM meet.

Another notable missing part in the ambassador's rebuttal to GT's 27 Sep article which accuses Singapore not being honest with its words by allowing US spy planes and LCS to operate from its territory..Stanley instead wanted GT to reproduce his statement in full it site.

Clearly, China has growing mistrust with Singapore.

There is no good or bad guys out there. We are on our own and we unfortunately need everybody help.

Dont read too much into all these reports. They are bias and write according to their owner instruction.

Because the spoke person was correct in the sense of wording his used.

Global times accused SG for bringing up South China sea tribunal.

This spoke person said some countries trying to 渲染有关涉南海内容

see the subtle differences?

Singapore ambassador said ASEAN countries represented by Loas tried to add certain south China sea statement into NAM official record.

The statement was a call to  solve all sovereignty and territorial disputes in the South China Sea by peaceful means, without resorting to  force and/or the threat to use force, in accordance with the universally recognized principles of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of  the Sea and the Charter of the United Nations.

You can see that the China spoke person has carefully chose his word to ambiguously tell the truth and at the same time gave an impression that he agreed with Global times.

Why talk so much?

Might makes right.

I've never understood why countries even bother to try to justify their actions when everyone knows it is a load of bulls**t anyway.
