Last time, I remember what ever thing we buy or use must have the SAFETY mark sticker from PSB (now SPRING). retailers are not allow to sell things without the safety marks.... now the market is flooded with electrical items that are not tested for safety... means we can use, but at our own risk.... i saw so many different kind of wall receptacle with USB charger in Sim Lim... so tempted... but if something happens to the house (eg. fire la... bla bla bla caused but this item), does insurance still cover?

Forget about all that small stuff .... nowadays even house main copper wires also got fake aluminium plated ones . Mine Air Con kenna ... somemore by establish AC company. I complained to them ... they said subcontractor do the wiring and all that grandmother story come out Complained to Spring (boh chap! and push me PSB also same story.... no control )

Finally after so many letters and emails they sent someone to change after almost of 4 months of nagging...... Singapore Stress lah

I only came to know like after they installed the AC's ...5 years later the AC not responding and i asked my regular Air Con servicing guy to check and he told me so and he said even the big boys are doing such "ali baba" things

Isn't it better that your house don't burn down in the first place than

have the fire and claim insurance?

Might be less hassle getting the safety mark items.

Even if the insurance pay out the smell of smoke is terrible.

the list by spring is not updated.

electrical items must be tested but items such as adapter are not required So long they have the ce cert.

safety mark testing for 1 sku is costly that why some distributor skip the process.

currently have some items with them.

the testing fees can buy a new toyota already

Try to buy from well-established brands.

Certs and stickers can always ownself type or paste. [laugh]

If everything want certs like oil & gas industry, everything will be too expensive. The spark plug you buy from stockist is only $4 to $40 per piece retail, but oil & gas industry buy 1,000 pieces at one go at $100 per piece WITH CERTIFICATE. :D

with safety mark cert price at 100.

usually for distributor if they try to cut cost they just go ahead with ce cert.

for manufacturer they will protect their own brand thus would spend the monies for safety mark cert.

小弟just join the ranks of manufacturer with some partners and is selling my items to some other country thus investing in my own brand.

mean no safety mark, got CE cert also can la?

No wonder KDK singapore fan cost much more than MY KDK cos MY KDK got no safety mark

i think Malaysia products also have some SIRIM safety marks or something like that ; Unless if KDK is parallel import then maybe another issue. But if they give you their local agents guarantee or warranty card should be quite Ok as KDK is a renowed brand but who know nowadays............ haiz

Power plugs and sockets yes they have - people will look for that 1st thing .......... but wires ........... how to check ?? until i learnt a lesson this time as the sub contractor had used copper plated on aluminium wires

Last time before PSB it was SISIR........i can use my cheap $20 helmet because it came with the sticker but my Shoei GRV costing a few hundred dollars had only the DOT sticker and back in the 90s it was illegal as it doesnt have the SISIR sticker....bloody double standard.

I ordered a box of 3 pin UK plugs from RS components.

They wouldn't sell it to me, saying it does not have Safety Mark and only fit for export.

Unless I fax to them stating usage, blah..blah..blah.

I said never mind. Too much trouble. I just buy from elsewhere.
