Kangadrool Supersonic October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Toyota 4AT as used for dunno how many decades before they "upgrade" to current CVT. OIC. Hmmm what type of ride pair with what GB is good for our road?? Hybrid?? But Hybrid...errrr.... also don't really like CVT esp for B&B ride.... ↡ Advertisement
Kayetch 1st Gear October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Frankly if you ask me, the ancient Toyota 4 speed is more than enough for SG roads. The korean 6 speed auto is inefficient is because its TCU (transmission control unit) is programmed to upshift at every available opportunity, which is not suitable to SG roads at all because it will then end up shifting up and down countless times to cater for start-stop traffic. And this causes poor fuel consumption. I am currently getting 10.x km/L on SG roads. And the occassional 11km/L if I use the expressways a lot during that particular tank of petrol. But on NSH, it's a dream. I can get 13-15km/L at speeds of between 110 to 130km/h. what car do you drive to get this kind of mileage?

WML888 2nd Gear October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Agree. I find Subaru's automatic gearboxes 'slushy' But their current range all CVT - I'd stay away from these Can share your experience on Subaru current CVT ? No kick ? Or too good ?
7hm Turbocharged October 7, 2016 Share October 7, 2016 Can share your experience on Subaru current CVT ? No kick ? Or too good ? Maybe they just don't like any kind of CVT. Most people have praise for the Subaru Lineartronic CVT compared to other CVTs. Key words, compared to other CVTs. Less CVT droning complaints and more conventional like than others, go most of the comments.

This contributes to the high fuel consumption too.
Vratenza Supersonic October 8, 2016 Share October 8, 2016 Agree. Subaru's one of the more "liveable" CVT in the market.... CVT is classic case of love it or hate it kind of tech. No right or wrong...just felt that the japs took the cheap and easy route to reduce consumption figure instead of spending potentially more time and resources to R&D a better conventional AT. I happen to hate it. Maybe they just don't like any kind of CVT. Most people have praise for the Subaru Lineartronic CVT compared to other CVTs. Key words, compared to other CVTs. CVT is the cheapest way to achieve complying FC.
Hamburger Hypersonic October 8, 2016 Share October 8, 2016 Many would relate heaviness to quality which I feel is subjective. The R&D from the car company on steel alloy perhaps is dated and thus weigh heavier. Heavy may not mean stronger. Perhaps.....

Beehive3783 Turbocharged October 11, 2016 Share October 11, 2016 After driving it for 4 years, many times i have wondered why I did not choose a manual. Would have been more fun and better FC too. Beehive3783 Turbocharged October 11, 2016 Share October 11, 2016 That's one of the trade offs in driving a manual car, but heck I could get by a 2 hour causeway jam in the past so definitely PIE peak traffic is not a problem for me With manual, I don't have to keep my foot on the brakes With auto, I have to control my foot on the brakes Same same but different.
