Me :)... Long boring wait for the countdown. Super impressive launch... It was in Berlin. They invited thousands or journalists to cover the event... And simultaneous translations into a few languages.. From German and English which were the main languages used... Very impressed. Skoda must have spent quite a bit on the publicity.

Those who are keen to watch the launch...

Caveat.... I don't work for Skoda [laugh]

yes very impressive launch with the aerial show

Its their 1st SUV so far and i think Skoda wants to create a big impression with it. with a unique name to it too..

the Kodiak makes the Q5 and X3 looks plain, only the GLE/GLC looks more futuristic..

Skoda's Simply Clever addition are really just that.

Useless for us, but they even have stuff like ice scraper integrated into the fuel cap, emergency vest holders, umbrellas in doors, bag hook on dash, removable lamp...

Then again some of them might be optional equipment. Probably will never make their way here.

I particularly like the auto door edge protector, especially useful for our tight parking space. Check out YouTube for more features of the car.

BTW, the boot space with 3rd row up is pretty impressive at ~270 liters (similar to the bigger size Sharan / Alhambra). In 5 seater mode, boot space is larger than any sedan / mid size MPV (>700 liters)!

I would however prefer they have 280ps 2.0 TSI model with 4x4, maybe will be launched at later date. For now the 190ps 400NM 2.0 TDI 4x4 is the best option for me.

I suspect the most probable AD would be Trans Eurokars.

Trans Eurokars was approached by Skoda in 2013/14 to take up the dealership for Singapore but TE turn it away, probably their focus are on strengthening Mazda sales then. Nothing is impossible but chances are slim.

Other possible candidates include Wearnes group (they are AD for VW in Malaysia), Sime Darby group (they are specialise with Conti and American make), C&C & Tan Chong group (they are hungry for more, in view of them setting up T8 recently and that they don't have any continue brand under their belt yet).

Let wait for official announcement.

U sound as if can buy locally leow :D

It is Skoda that wanted to expand their presence in Asia Pac, so it shall be coming, just a matter of how soon...

Btw, just read that a more powerful Biturbo 2.0L diesel, with 240ps & 500Nm is in the pipeline! It will come standard with 4x4 & 6 speed DSG...

BiTurbo TDI was out for 2-3 yrs already..

mainly used in VAG heavier vehicles.

Hope to see this engine used in more vehicles as the 500Nm torque is very useful..

tried the 440Nm Sorento CRDi earlier and WOAH!!!  push back into the seat at just low 2000rpm..

and the pricer premium cars with 3.0L Turbo Diesel only pushes 600Nm these days..

waiting waiting..

I knew the Bi-Turbo option is not new (B8 Passat already has it), but am looking forward to it. Based on what I read about the Passat, it come with new 7 speed DSG, 4x4, 0 - 100kph in 6.1 Sec, fuel consumption of <5L/100km, etc. Edited by Carbon82

If I were a betting man, I'll wager that the AD will bring in 1 petrol and 1 diesel engine, probably entry level for both to be price competitive, given that this is a new badge in a highly badge sensitive market.

With our road tax system, the 1.4L has a huge built in advantage.

The biturbo would be a halo effect type vehicle and I'm not sure the market is ready for it yet.

the problem is that this brand had 2 or 3 failures in the country already.. and in close region not much sound of this czech brand.. as VCS position itself here for the purpose of pushing PIs off from their cars.

so their cars are somehow price controlled from from Factory..

any downline/sister brands will have its cost known to VCS.. so any AD bringing the sister brands will have a harder time fighting with VW on costing on a large scale..

The more exp ones like Porsche and Audi ain't affected.

Interestingly, seems like Australia will be getting the high spec version of the Kodiaq. The 1.4L will not be brought in to Australia.

Then again, Skoda is not new to Australia. The Superb is very well regarded there and they probably have some data on the most popular spec level.

Also, their road tax system is probably not as skewed towards small engine capacities as ours.

Will be interesting to see what the Singapore AD does.

Seems like demand for this 7 seater SUV will be very strong...

How will drivers 'bear' to be without Skoda's new Kodiaq

Skoda has just launched its dynamic new Kodiaq seven-seater SUV to the world, and it’s expecting great things from it.

The car carries the same name as the remote Kodiak island in the Gulf of Alaska – although it’s spelled with a q rather than a k at the end – where there is a population of almost 15,000 people and famously 3,500 Kodiak bears.

There is no real connection although local residents are said to be chuffed that the name of their island will soon be on the lips of people all around the world thanks to Skoda.

And having seen the new car when it was unveiled to the public for the first time in Berlin it’s ‘bear-ly’ believable that it won’t be a success for the Czech car maker.

In fact 25,000 people registered their interest in the new car without even seeing it, and the revelation that prices in the UK are expected to start at less than £24,000 for the entry-level S model should see that number escalate quickly.

Firm orders for the newcomer will be taken from January onwards with the first cars going into showrooms from late March/early April and Skoda has already dropped some strong hints that there will be more SUV models to come.

The Kodiaq will feature the best the brand has to offer in terms of both quality and innovation and will join Skoda’s Superb model as joint flagships for the marque.

The Kodiaq is classed as a compact vehicle but in true Skoda fashion the company has managed to stretch things so that this compact has very generous proportions indeed.

In fact it’s 4.7 metres long – 40mm longer than the Skoda Octavia – 1.9 metres wide, has the largest boot in its class with 2065 litres of space and will be available as either a seven-seater with three rows of seats or – for the entry level models – a five-seater.

Five engines will be on offer in the UK, three petrol and two diesels, and there will be a choice of four or two-wheel-drive.

The best seller in Britain is expected to be the 2.0-litre, 150bhp, 56 mpg model, although Skoda anticipates that – like the Superb – the biggest demand will be for the higher spec SE and SEL models.

The alternative, top-of-the-range diesel delivers 190 bhp, has a top speed of 130 miles per hour and will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 8.6 seconds. Options available include six-speed manual and six and seven-speed DSG automatic gearboxes.

The three petrol engines on offer are two 1.4-litre models (125bhp and 150bhp) and a 2.0-litre, 180 bhp version.

With its tall stance, clamshell-style bonnet and two double crystalline headlights inspired by traditional Czech crystal glass art the Kodiaq certainly stands out in the crowd.

The brand prides itself on its “Simply Clever” features and on the Kodiaq these include plastic door edge protectors which spring out as you open the doors to protect the edges from being damaged, as well as the obligatory Skoda umbrella in one of the front doors and the ice scraper behind the fuel filler flap.

Also new are wide-angle surround-view cameras located at the front and rear as well as in the wing mirrors so that the area around the car can be displayed on the dashboard touchscreen

And with this car you have permanent access to the Internet as it’s a wi-fi hotspot.

For buyers who find towing a trailer a problem the new car offers Trailer Assist, which automatically does the hard work for you when you are reversing by taking over the steering.

Skoda’s first ever seven-seater has packed a lot into one package and buyers will be spoiled for choice when it comes to ordering optional features.

They will probably tell dealers they can’t ‘bear’ to be without any of them.

Skoda Kodiaq mentioned in ST page D19 today.

Chris Tan says it's unlikely to come to Singapore as Skoda does not have a distributor here.

Then again, Singapore was one of the focus countries recently mentioned by Skoda.

"...Maier said the three new markets that currently most interest Skoda are South Korea, Singapore and Iran. But he added: “America is the one that we don't currently compete in with the biggest potential.” - See more at: http://www.autocarpro.in/news-international/skoda-kodiaq-kick-start-strong-suv-family-21591#sthash.UlBYmABv.dpuf

Full technical specifications reveal. The 150ps 1.4 TSI can challenge X-Trail, Outlander, Santa Fe & Sorento easily.

Diesel variant look very decent too.

Seems that the key is the significantly lower kerb weight, which is similar to Outlander and lower than Xtrail (even though it's longer) and an amazing 20-25% lower than Santa Fe / Sorento.

This is good for performance and for FC. Key question is whether the reduction in weight has any corresponding tradeoffs ie sound insulation or "continental feel".

Looking forward to the first reviews.
