Currently I am looking to buy a 2nd hand S60 T4. I would appreciate if someone can advise me on the pros and cons of this model? I would also like to seek advice where I can sell the car for inspection before confirming to buy the car?

You mean send the car for an inspection first? Are you getting from direct owner or the dealer? You can check out Motor EDGEvantage.

http://www.sgcarmart.com/directory/merchant.php?MID=15287

I'm looking at their website and it says free estimates. I'm guessing they'll be able to help you with the checks (for a fee) but no confirms. Just tell them you saw their ads on sgcarmart/mycarforum maybe they can help.

All the best in getting a suitable car mate.

Auto Bolt at Kaki Bukit is the place to go for all Wearnes related cars

Autobolt does mostly jaguars. At least, it started out that way.

Chanced upon this thread. Driving a v70, my 2nd Volvo. Some humble input of workshop experiences, consider me a workshop hopper, i go to whoever is least busy. But only one workshop fulfilled my 3 strike rule:

1) MTE - did not live up to my expectations for what I poured in. Solved some issues could not solve others. happiest workers I have ever seen.

2) Autodynamac - Boss Raymond nice guy, a shop for you to fix your wares from unico. Reasonable price.

3) Autoedgevantage - Ex wearnes staff, professional attitude, you get what you pay for though not the cheapest.

Else I go to my regular workshop for non Volvo specific needs.

Ignore hearsays of Volvo being troublesome, even Toyota has lemons.

Autoedgevantage? You are referring to Motor Edgevantage?

I have been to MTE once. Sometime back. Just for regular servicing. Can't judge based on that alone but staff were quite friendly. Workshop was packed when I was there though. Had to wait quite long for just servicing.

just sent my XC90 for a minor overhaul 3 weeks back at MTE. I've sent the XC90 to Wearnes for the past 8 years so I can't really compare.

But nothing to complain, nice guys, nice boss, straight as an arrow. But the feeling I get from MTE is more like BMS for Subarus. You go there to improve your ride and squeeze a little bit more performance out of it.

The thing I felt at ease about was the guys were more knowledgeable about my car than I was. :secret-laugh:

Yes Motor Edgevantage, sorry seldom log in.

Actually have been to Kian Theong ( or something like that ) and Sin motor too, both are ok too.

Heard Allen is not bad too, owner drives 5 cylinder Focus ST

Any reviews for Gary's Engineering?

I went to one popular at Sin Ming.

Normal service, changed timing belt, some adhoc repair. Quite good I would say But rather pricey on labour, nonetheless was quite fuss free.

I also have no time to ask second opinion.

But the latest incident, my emission light illuminated, sent to check, took 2.5hrs to diagnosis, gave me a quote 3k, to change throttle body plus a range of other stuff.

They said 3 hours can finish repair.

Told them I need to use the car to go back office for a lunch appointment.

Say back following day for the repair.

Too less than 15mins to get the car ready. I thought to check the throttle body and the butterfly valve plus other stuff can close back so fast?

Following day went Gary Engineering just to get a 2nd opinion. It was my 1st visit. Never told them I went other workshop.

They put the diagnostic tool, I join in to see (previous one I was in waiting area) I saw all diagnosis on the diagnostic tool. Quoted $600 for must repair. I thought, might as well ask about other stuff including suspension.

The previous one said must change full suspension set, cannot just change absorber. Said probably 2k for front. Another amount for back.

So ask Gary staff to check if can just change the front absorbers? Said yes.

Total spend $1k+.

Emission light went off. No more suspension sound.

If I change every everything at Sin Ming will probably spent 6k for labour and parts.

Yes probably will feel like a new car, but I plan to scrap the car 2 years later. Why change non essential parts.

Why lie to me saying must change the full set when Gary Engineering can change specific parts?

I think I will keep going back Gary Engineering.

Piece of advise though

Gary like to "poison" people.

By all means if you want tuning other than Polestar, go ahead let him do it.

Since I already spent $1888 to on Polestar, I use it of another year or so.....

my dealer just done a full service but decided to do a oil change with motor edgevanatge after recommendation from a very good friend and researching 3 so-called volvo specialists

$180 for oil change using original filter & volvo approved castrol oil

they found gearbox oil leaks so took some pictures & managed to get my dealer to pay for it not 100% but 70% of the cost to change the cover seal which is around $1.3k where it was done 4 days later after my 1st visit

Check, gearbox oil leaks damage at $1.3k? Think this is a common problem, mine too. Sourcing for a workshop with reasonable cost to get it fix. How Long it take to repair?

Since I have changed to new workshop already.

Prefer not to share the lousy one, aka chop carrot one. Just get a workshop that you can see how they work.

Imagine person having kidney stones and the specialist recommend removal of one kidney, follow with liver transplant as preventive measures.

But better than workshops trying to make people to change non-essential parts, maybe even non damage parts.

I understand workshops like to change "everything" in one job.

I run business for people so I can understand on maximising profitability.

But the previous workshop is not that honest to me. I hate people with no integrity.

Change all to play safe and tell clients they do a good jon
