Hi Guys,

I have bought pre-owned VW Scirocco 1.4 from a dealer. As usual, they only provide warranty for engine and gearbox. But ABS sensor spoilt few days after I got the car. I went VW service center and changed it. Should the dealer be liable for the damage?

There is a 6 months buyer warranty, you should go back to dealer and explain the defect first prior to AD repair, now thy may turn around and do a service acceptance, if it does not cost a bomb, be streetwise and ask around b4 jumping in.

Forget it. It's a dealer you talking about here.

You went back agent without noticing them and expect them to pay? That's not how things work in this sector.

I did informed the dealer since the first day I got the warning light for ABS. The dealer simply told me that they were not responsible since I'd already taken ownership. They advised me to go to their workshop but I still need to pay if parts need to be changed. That's why I decided to go to VW service center.

What I can say is going to their workshop is as good as ......nevermind.

You may of course approach our tiger for help but it's a waste of time if you ask me.

Move on.....

if they dun wan to replace you also LL. Try request for partial sharing of bill.

Usually you will need to replace 4 at one go. When 1 spoils only, the remaining 3 would not last very long.

Have a read. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/writeup.php?AID=267&PN=2

Under the lemon law, I was able to make some replacement with the dealer on defective or broken parts, such as reverse sensors, cover for the light housing (within the engine bay) and rear license plate light housing.

You should never go to another party, get the repair and claim against the dealer. This way, I do not think any dealer will accept. The vehicle is purchased from the dealer, you have revisit them to state your claims and get it resolved there and then.

Forget it..

You got another major part which is more worrying..

ABS sensor won't cost you much if you already jump into VW bandwide

That has always been a concern for many potential buyers who plan to buy pre-owned vehicles as such issues may or will happen and we are also not sure how successful if we can claim against the dealers for the replacement parts. Very tricky indeed.
