Sudden Engine Oil Loss

Recommended Posts

Hello Bros & Sis,

My car over the last week kept losing oil pressure until the error light comes on. At first I thought it was oil filter or sump plug come loose. But when I look below after, there dripping of engine oil from the area where the auto trans meet the engine after driving.

On Friday I Top up 2L of EO. On Saturday the Low oil pressure light keep flickering again and dipstick indicate Low level. So Saturday night top up another 2L. Today Sunday morning I see one puddle of oil under car, so after Send family to Pasir Ris from Marsiling, quickly go nearby workshop in petrol station nearby.

The Mechanic say my oil barrier most prob fall off and need to replace. This is gasket between the engine and transmission? $680 in total. Have to leave car till tomorrow afternoon. He seemed like honest Mechanic but I dunno if I kena chop. Anybody know?

My car is auto 2005 Picanto.

Thank you

Hi. Faced something like this before but never noticed the engine oil leak. What happened was that the engine oil warning light will flicker on and off and sometimes stay on sometimes disappear.

When i check with dipstick it shows low engine oil level. I checked with the petrol station service area. They say the flyseal is cracked. Costs $500 to replace. This was at shell autoserve. Recently also had another time when there was a crack. This time I noticed the leak at the car park. No warning light came on but after the first incident I became very sensitive to any leakages.

I went to check. This time the flyseal of the transmission box was cracked. Cost about 500 dollars to replace. This was done at komoco.

So once was engine oil leak and second time was transmission fluid leak. Maybe your cost is a bit on high side or maybe your parts cost more. Mine is avante 2009 model. Auto. But it costs about 500 dollars for me each time. Of cos if there are other parts cracked then cost more.

In shell autoserve I sent my car in the morning and could only collect it in the evening and it was a rush job. In komoco I had to leave the car overnight. I was told such repairs are time consuming because there are parts to be dismantled before the faulty part could be replaced and then fixing back the dismantled parts which require specialised equipment. Hence the cost and length of time for repairs.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Philip for the reply, it was very informative! ya the Mechanic said they will need to drop the engine and transmission and also drain (and fill) both. My ATF is a rare type Hyundai MX4 so I think that's why they quoted higher.
