Find cute shots for a start, and use the rules only as a guide, and feel free to break the rules..

But having a eye for a shot takes time and practice :)

Noob question

Why does all the studio like to edit the photos?

Isn't the natural photos the best?

I've zero creative/artistic instincts.. HAHA

Cannot be leh....usually u need to imagine the patients description...haha :p

Have a d90 which is in Cold Storage and a rx100 ii which gets to goes out occasionally

Usually use iphone to capture those lovely moments

Google & YouTube are your best friends.

Try the following skills

-  exposure by visual estimation

-  manual focus by estimating distance and aperture control

I only take photos of my kids and little of anything else

Anything else no maters how beautiful how well done is meaningless to me, does nothing to motivate me

Maybe you can consider a video of them too.

The sounds, and the things kids say, can be priceless..

your wife leh???

I started out taking pics of my wife. This was the pic that really got me interested in photography 11 years ago. Posted it on Clubsnap and I think Deadpoet (some active guy in CS) gave it a big thumbsup..

Old thread in CS.... bring back memories

Somehow I feel my recent pics don't have the feeling anymore....

While books and video such as youtube can be of a good guide, nothing beats actually shooting yourself. Go out there and join others in their group outings. Take as many photographs as possible and compare yours against others, previous and present. With practice, definitely the only result is improvements.

Beside Clubsnap, there is another group, however, they are mostly macros outing.

Youtube has a lot of videos on what makes a good photo. Rules of 3rd, lines and subject.

Practice. if you have a group of friends enjoying the same hobby. Go out to the streets and practice. A good place to try out shutter speed is ECP. Can try panning shots of people cycling. At night, try bulb mode with a tripod and shutter remote.

YMMV.... some use photoshop, others like it as it is..

Photoshop is ranked #1 for my favourite photography "gear".

Have changed several camera equipment over the years but the software remains a long-time companion for me.

For travel photo, buy National Geography.  Look at how the photo is composed.

This is an interesting article about triangle relationship of Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO.

https://petapixel.com/2017/03/25/exposure-triangle-making-sense-aperture-shutter-speed-iso/

Thanks. The link was a good read.

As long as the picture come out, anything also can.

Sometimes I am more complicated, I need to make sure the aperture used is the sharpest and least distorted.   [laugh]

I use Lightroom only.

But the Adobe software never ceases to amaze me. The limits of your manipulation and tweaking is only limited by your brain  [thumbsup]
