I don't want to drive a sub-compact for now lar.... at least Elantra size above... at the compact size, no one ever sells a manual anymore... stick shift is gone for good... my last was an Impreza manual... one of the reasons I bought it...

Even accent doesn't offer manual anymore.

yeah, KMC bring in the Kona 1.0T in manual is because they have no choice.. 'cos during initial launch hyundai haven't make auto transmission available on that model yet.

 

luckily there are still a percentage of drivers who like to drive manual cars, most of them are attracted by the affordable price and flock to try it out (since nowadays not much other selections for manual cars anyways).

 

you'd bet in the meantime KMC is busy persuading the hyundai side to quickly come out with the 1.0T auto version, 'cos that will sell like hotcakes in local market.. :)

 

for sure when auto version come out, the manual version will then end up shifted to special indent basis only (like with the accent model).

$85K is very good value for the Kona. The 1.0 turbo will be very underpowered if it comes in auto transmission. A manual transmission is more appropriate for a 1 litre engine.

 

Many people are inclined towards auto gear these days – hardly any traffic jam in Singapore, unlike in Bangkok. You have your left hands and legs – use them!

 

The Kona is the same size as the C-HR.

 

C-HR 1.2 turbo auto, 114 bhp - $110K

Kona 1.0 turbo manual,  118 bhp -  $85K

that's just my guess, since they already homologated the manual version too (was displayed in the showroom briefly).. my friend enquired on it last year and was quoted as special indent basis, not sure if KMC still entertain those indent requests now though, maybe can double check with them..

 

but i guess if one is keen on a manual accent.. probably better to just pay abit more and get the new kona 1.0T manual.. more powerful, with alot more features. :)

Auto trannies, whether its DCT or DSG, married to a small capacity engine, can be dangerous when you are engaging in overtaking on the highway.

 

The gearbox tends to hesitate to kickdown, plus the turbo lag.... this double whammy can be fatal !

Firstly there is definitely enough power in a 1.0 turbo... it has the same power as a NA 1.6 L engine... so I don't get where the lack of power comes from... secondly there are many examples of 1.0 turbo engines mated with all sorts of auto transmissions in Europe... it's just we don't get such cars...

I will wait for the 1L auto turbo to reach here and compare with Tucson 1.6L auto turbo. Then see which is the better choice. Any ideas how long this will take??

If and when Hyundai starts making Kona 1.0T with auto. By the time, I think KMC will be fast to bring it in.

Took a look and a test drive of the Kona before lunchtime: easy drive with enough power/torque for city driving. Clutch is super light, forgiving but vague/mushy biting point and the shifting is quite rubbery but all this make for super easy driving. Rear legroom is enough for me to sit behind my driving position— I’m 1.74m tall. Quite a nice car for the price — didn’t try the i30 but the smaller LCD screen for head unit is very off putting.

Secured COE today for Kona.  This is non-guaranteed bid . Komoco is very aggressive

in putting their cars on the road. SE says they plan to sell 300 units per month for those

new cars they bring in.
