I think he was just expressing an alternative point of view, and surely others are allowed to have an opinion without having vested interests right? Is that not the premise of a well-rounded, healthy discussion? Everyone has their own perspective on things, and that's why we have a community to share.

Am I muzzling him in any way from stating his opinion? Am I muzzling you?

Aren't you stating your own perspective right here as part of this "well-rounded, healthy discussion"?

And when someone defends this practice repeatedly, I think it's fair to ask about whether a vested interest exists. I'm as free to ask as he is to deny it, and as you are to challenge me.

Indeed. It is interesting that a car enthusiast such as yourself and having owned Beemers has not encountered a battery change process. This is standard procedure that is very well documented - http://www.bimmerscan.com/bmw-battery-registration/

My response of "interesting" was a brief "thank you" to David for having mentioned that. If you looked at my reply to merc280v6, you'll already note that I knew about the DME issue (and need for coding) when a battery is disconnected (of course that includes replacement).

Perhaps you should read through my posts just in this thread before looking to score cheap rhetorical points.

And not every multiple Beemer owner would necessarily have encountered a battery change procedure (so that's not a very sound assumption on your part). Not if one buys new and not if one changes car before a battery change becomes due. I only experienced this once, and it was likely a shortened battery lifespan brought on as a result of using a powermagic pro in combination with a blackvue - something that occurred as a consequence of poor advice from the workshop owner. However, from that experience, I have learned that having a standalone battery is critical in these cars (if parking mode is enabled), and I have passed this hard-won advice on to others (different thread).

My previous and current AD do not do that.

Previous - Komoco

Current - PA

I review the footages after servicings and nothing weird happened. The usual stuff, servicing, test drive ard leng kee and then washing and parked.

BTW, I have six cameras on three independent power source. :XD:

Need to correct myself here after what I discovered recently.

PA - Alexander, no cover or unplug of in-car cam

PA - Ubi, will find all my 6 in-car cam and disable them even thou some of them running from independent battery

I am going to send in for servicing, is there anyway that i can hide the camera

Make a tissue box canera.

Use a rearview mirror camera.

Get a gps with in-built camera.

Mount hidden camera.

Also use independent power source hidden away or make it hard to get to. Can store it in a locked box or locked glove box and drill a hole for cable to exit.

I'm fine for them to cover up or unplug the power to the car cam.

What pissed me off was they forget to plug back in after servicing. I encountered a few times @ Komoco-Leng-Kee whereby they forget to plug in the camera and I didn't realized it as well until I drove for a while and realized there wasn't any alert.

So in my next servicing, I specifically ask them to write down on the service sheet to plug that back in if they want to remove it. Thereafter it seems OK.

And also by covering up, means there's a chance the alignment  is out, so means have to check the footage for correct angle.

Instruct them upfront not to touch the camera! After AD unplugged my camera, it spoilt shortly after I plug back. Thinkware camera not cheap. They meddle with it, Spoil, I pay!!

Another reason why they unplug camera:

I went to a outside workshop that specialise in 2 brands, the workshop showed me receipts/invoice from the AD. The workshop told me that AD no spare parts, ship in wait too long, so get from this specialised workshop and even send their customers cars to this specialise workshop when they cannot fix the problem. No wonder camera must unplug.

Do I believe their story.... yes! I service at this workshop, with their computer diagnostic tools, and spare parts availability, I believe their story.

If only all AD have a viewing window for customer to view the car while they relax in ac room.. Drinking coffee.. That will be great.

Oh someone say VW have it rite.. Hope other AD can follow their style!

AD do not want customers to see how some mechs rough handle customer cars.
