Anonymous Dislike function - Time for review?

This Being a forum and not a social media site like Facebook where you choose your own settings and friends, the like and dislike with names should not have happened. What's written here isn't an article and people posting aren't doing it professionally.

All the likes and dislikes should have been just anonymous from the beginning when it was done, that way the forum wouldn't have drop in members and groups wouldn't have been formed.

Again I stress it is a forum...

I haven't been in many forums since things changed with these likes or dislikes in the last few years.

But HWZ also has likes which are not anonymous.

Is reddit's upvote system anonymous? I'm not sure.

HWZ.... same owner as MCF? Before it was bought over, MCF was thriving and growing....

So...... dislike is the new like?

:blink::D

Some give dislike and must announce to the world like as if they just won the recent presidential election.

There is always the Ignore button but you can ignore the person but does not stop the person from reading your posting.

Our country has been made mockery by the most insulting Presidential Selection ever in history and we are here talking about dislikes from anonymous in the forum :excl:

Forum is for discussion. Personally I don't really like this 'Like' and 'Dislike' system. I'd like to think that we (well most of us anyway) are mature enough to have civilised discussions here without resorting to petty and childish actions.

Yes Sir.

I think this post is already more than -5 dislikes.  [bigcry]  :TT_TT:  :a-m1524:

I was just trying to convey my message.

Get dislikes in your post. So?

There are more important things in life to deal with.

Agree with you on most parts.

As I mentioned earlier, it is the feeling of being sniped in the dark that most non-saint person will have some trouble with. But of course over time and if you get enough dislike, it will become a fleeting 2 minutes of "WTF" feeling before it dissipates into thin air. As mentioned, this is just an online avenue to socialise and interact, do not need to take it too seriously or let it affect your daily life.

Like my example I brought up earlier about your car door being scratched the next day after you had a debate with your neighbour. Of course one can laugh it off and just send it for respraying. But the feeling of unjust and being hit below the belt will be there.

Regarding the bolded parts in your post, what makes us think we are so important and highly regarded that the thought of somebody bad-mouthing us is so scandalous and distressing? Especially when there is no personal ID or reputation at stake in an online forum - then it is simply an extension of your own ego and self-esteem, or lack thereof.

If a local uncle/auntie at the neighbourhood kopitiam sniggers or talk cock about something we did/said/wore, are we going to kick up a fuss and punch them in the face or call the police down to make a complaint?

If such a reaction is seen as an overreaction in our daily lives, what about online? There will always be people "sniping in the dark" at you. There will always be some fellows who will "see you no up" and disrespect you. So what? Deal with it like a man, stop being a drama queen about it and whining about it nonstop like some childish self-proclaimed table-wiper here who is still at his ridiculous antics even after a decade (or close to it?).

The basic issue here is the oversized egos of some people who feel that any perceived "disrespect" or "slight" must be answered back twice-fold or in kind, and must also be retaliated upon; otherwise we will be diminished in some way. This culture of egotism and intolerence is exactly why you see people getting stabbed in coffeeshops over silly arguments with dishwashers/tablecleaners (the real ones mind you), or folk getting their heads chopped off at noodle shops over insults.

There is no zen or mysticism involved at all in this. We just need to accept we are simply human beings and normal people and being disrespected or insulted is inevitable and out of our control, but how we react to such provocations speak volumes about our character or lack of.

That is also the very reason why I want to bring up the issue whether there is a better way to enhance how we interact in this online virtual world of MCF (although many of us have met up in real life and form our own cliques as real friends).

You are absolutely right, we cannot control how others see or feel about us. It is how we react to these dislikes that reflect our character. I will not go so far as saying having a negative feeling towards a snipe in the dark personal attack as lack of character. To borrow your term, we are simply human beings with individual character and behavioural response as a combination of genes and culmination of years of upbringing by different parenting style and environment.

Is it better to leave the anonymous dislike function alone simply by hoping everyone achieve the singular spiritual maturity and strength in character to simply ignore the anonymous dislike?

Or take the opportunity to review the system such that a culture of open frank discussion and intellectual debate is promoted. Disagreement will bound to have plenty and we should be encouraged to "agree to disagree" if it is a matter of difference in opinion. Factual misinformation can also be better corrected in an open debate in an open forum where everyone can be an arbiter and chip in on either side.

I believe the latter can be achieved with removal of the anonymous dislike.

Radx praised your post

But for the same post, the middle finger moderator say you political.

Doesn't mean if I use God in a sentence, it means I am referring to religion, it is all about context.

If it was me, I would have been given a warning before I could blink my eye.

Hahaha...

I think RadX constant moderation on you makes you stronger.

What is a dislike to you, when you are already subjected more from the mods?

Yep, I agree.

Deal with it.

you found your electric chair yet?

又爱又恨

I bet you can't bear to flick the switch even if he sits on it.

Actually I suggest doing away with dislike button. Hear only the good things hahaha.

Seriously though the dislike button does nothing except make ppl upset. Let's say someone disliked my post. I see the persons id. So what? Not like I can jio him out one on one.

Do away with dislike button. Can keep the like button or change it to agree. If anyone disagree can always quite the post and say his/her piece.

Why not we conduct a poll here?
