Singapore Cafe Talk

Whichever cafe that doesn't have students hogging the tables is good. The service level and quality of food is rather similar across which isn't great anyway.

Should we also include coffee shops?

I drink my coffee black and with no sugar so my comments will be skewed towards that.

Yahaya Koffeeworks at 4 Jalan Gelenggang

Staff - Generally friendly
Decor - Rustic?

Food - Simple stuff e.g. ham and cheese on ciabata bread, some cakes and tarts.
Price - Average price for coffee is about 5 bucks.
Recommendation - I visit every two weeks. I also buy my whole coffee beans from them as well.

Joe & Dough at Millenia Walk

Staff - Generally friendly

Decor - Typical cafe

Food - Typical cafe food, meet sandwiches, cheese cakes, gula melaka cake etc.
Price - Average price for coffee is about 5 bucks.
Recommendation - I visit on Sunday when its quieter.  Coffee is really good.  You can also buy their beans as well.

I rarely visit the ones listed below because they are generally very packed and sometimes not so relaxing when you have to manage some belligerent chaps.  You can read reviews of them elsewhere.

Toby's Estate - some what sourish coffee.  Nice as an espresso.  Packed as sardines. Robertson quay crowd.

Chai Seng Huat - nice coffee, packed as sardines.

Baker and Cook - Jalan Merah Saga, nice coffee.  Typical cafe stuff.  Packed as sardines.  Generally caucasian crowd.

My favourite place is at home where the great barista that is myself makes my own coffee.

I use either of a cafetiere, a filter coffee maker, a Bialeti or a coffee maker from Vietnam.

I've also got an old sweaty sock available if all else fails.

The Tiny Roaster Cafe at Sunset Way

staff: very gd. polite n always smiling n accommodating. Each cup is lovingly prepared, so expect to wait for your coffee. Good thing is you can ask them about the bean origins and taste characteristics

food: none

price: $4.50 to $6 for a cup of coffee

decor: normal cafe. Inside with air-con very limited seats. Outside al- fresco sits more.

recommendation: Got there for good drip coffee. The espresso brews can be better as the barista did not warm the cup first, nor frothed the milk to a high enough tempertature.
