Just sharing my trip as I go along, and I hope to share some tips about the places I visit, as well photos and the adventures along the way..

I think most will be somewhat familiar with Beijing, the current capital of China.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing

Some common attractions there include some must see places like:

Great Wall of China

TianAnMen

Temple of Heaven

and many many more. Truly it's a place of history and culture. Lots of food and shopping too!

Where is Ningxia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ningxia

Ningxia (Chinese宁夏; pronounced [nǐŋɕjâ]), officially the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (NHAR), is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China located in the northwest part of the country. Formerly a province, Ningxia was incorporated into Gansu in 1954 but was separated from Gansu in 1958 and was reconstituted as an autonomous region for the Hui people, one of the 56 officially recognised nationalities of China. Twenty percent of China's Hui population lives in Ningxia.[5]

Ningxia is bounded by Shaanxi to the east, Gansu to the south and west, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north and has an area of around 66,400 square kilometres (25,600 sq mi).[1] This sparsely settled, mostly desert region lies partially on the Loess Plateau and in the vast plain of the Yellow River, and features the Great Wall of China along its northeastern boundary. Over the years an extensive system of canals has been built. Extensive land reclamation and irrigation projects have made increased cultivation possible.

Stay tuned as I travelled across China!

Some info:
No Facebook or whatsapp across the Great Firewall of China - will see if I can remain in touch with Singtel Autoroam...

Just a taster...

My tour guide in Beijing..

Hope she has friends....

BTW
If any knows a place near Dongcheng to buy DVDs/Blu Rays, and tea, please sound out!

Thanks

if you go china with tour groups, then you don't have to worry ... they will bring all the heritage that is for sale to you. you don't have to lift a finger at all ... just be ready to open up your wallet to them.

but if you DIY your trip, then not easy getting around.

There used to be a DVD store in Sanlitun Dirty Bar street (i.e. Behind TaiKuLi).

It might not be there now with the street cleanup.

Only lao Wai buys DVD/Blueray.

AQI has been below 100 for more than half of 2017.  It is not just CCCP congress.

Local sim card: FB, IG & Whatsapp will not work w/o VPN.

Currently, a lot of VPN service don't work until end of CCCP party congress (maybe).

You can see FB if you are on auto roam..

Plenty of Buick Astra cars on the road in China
Seems to be running well ..

Took a couple of Passat cars..
Spills body, smooth gearbox and fantastic noise insulation..
Impressive legroom too.
Only costs $40k here
The Chinese don't seem to have too many issues with the DSG gearbox, wet or dry and there is plenty of start stop traffic in the big cities..

Loved my trip to Ningxia last year

Try and visit these two places if you have the chance....

1) The super high and wobbly suspension bridge is scary but the scenery is breathtaking

https://www.tripadvi...an_Ningxia.html

2) Take the chairlift, ride a camel and go sand tobogganing. All while admiring the yellow river

https://www.tripadvi...ei_Ningxia.html

Try the wolfberry tea too. Delicious...!
